US, July 14, 2009 - A new Grand Theft Auto game will be coming next year, reports industry analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities.

Pachter's latest reports say that Take-Two has been developing a new title in the series - not an expansion - for over a year and that the publisher plans to release the game next year or possibly 2011 at the latest.

"Management declined to state when the game will launch, but has confirmed to us that the game is in development, has been for over a year, and is using the same game "engines" as the last version," Pachter wrote.

"Management also told us that the team at Rockstar North is highly motivated to get the game out, and that the team understands that its highest payday will come from working on GTA instead of any other game. When we do the simple math, we conclude that the next installment is likely to be completed by some time in 2010, although given the frequency of game delays, it is not clear that it will necessarily come before October 31, 2010."

"However, it is clear to us that the next version of GTA will arrive before the end of [Fiscal Year 2011]," he added.

Alan Lewis, VP of corporate communications for Take-Two, declined to comment on the report saying: "We only provide comments on information released directly by the Company. It is our policy to not comment on speculation by the media or analysts."

Slightly disappointing to know they have done it on the same engine as 4, but I guess if they optimize it a lot and get things more polished it could be good.

Now to go back and play GTA IV and complete it and TLAD. :)

Grand Theft Auto III - 2001
Grand Theft Auto IV - 2008

Judging by how long it took them to get GTA4 out the door, creating a new engine would mean a much much longer wait. As long as they polish it up and are able to get the fps stable, I'll be happy.

Im sure their is one hell of a lot of optimisation that can be done. if they can up the FPS to a playable level then ill be happy. I wish on GTA4 they had toned down the graphics and had it running properly. the graphic level of something like infamous would be fine and that runs really smoothly.

I don't mind that they use the same engine. It had a few issues but it's pretty good for what it did! I'm sure like Vice City and San Andreas did for GTA3 Rockstar will do whatever they can to squeeze as much out of it for the next title.

I'm quite looking forward to the prospect of driving around the countryside in the GTA4 engine (if they do it that is). The first time I left the city in SA and just took a drive was so cool.

No 3D GTA has had a perfect framerate or texture loading etc. In fact the PS2 version were pretty dire and the PC versions needed a decent system like GTA 4 does now. They should ditch all remnants of Renderware tbh but that's just my opinion.

Anyway, IV has by far the best performance on a console compared to previous GTA games. I was never distracted by any slowdowns or bugs on the 360 and I enjoyed the game, albeit not as thrilling as Vice City and the like. The problem with IV is that becasue GTA is a big successful franchise, every narrow minded nerd on the internet took it upon themselves to pick it apart as much as they can rather than remotely attempt to enjoy it for what it was. Sadly for GTA, people who don't know any better take this as gospel and it ruins the whole experience. I feel the same way about bloody movie reviews too.

Of course there is room for improvement, nothing is perfect and the game suffered huge delays. I do have high hopes for the next installment, maybe it's time I tried the DLC too.

Agreed on all points, I played IV for the fun and entertainment aspect and it was a blast!

Get the DLC it's great, I cannot wait for the next episode.

If it plays better and the next one is along the lines of vice city or san andreas il maybe put down saints row 2. GTA4 was a huge disappointment so we shall see......

I hope it is more like Liberty City. SA had amazing content, but the atmosphere was so much better in Liberty!
I found the framerate fine on 360, the problem was the awful popup.

Not sure if they did a Vice city 2 or SA:2 that it would be any good, i mean it would have WAY to much hype and i just dont think they could deliver. I would love to have a revamped VC or SA just as much as a lot of people but i recon it might be a compleatly new theme.

A new GTA: London maybe :D
