This might help you..

I was about 36 hours into GTA yesterday, and suddenly it started crashing. It first happened after being paused for about 2 hours and my internet went down and the xbox died. odd i thought..

Restarted the xbox and the router.. Crash on load! 3 Red lights.. OMG! i think.. restart xbox. Played some condemned 2 for a few hours.. no crashing. Odd..

Tried GTA again.. 3 RLOD on loading again.. So i disconnected it all vacuumed out the xbox very well with plenty of sucking near the vents.

The Xbox springs back to life and GTA loads first time. And i have been playing it none stop for 2 days since then and its never crashed since. So give that a go..

My xbox is getting on for 2 years old now.. About 6 months after launch.

If you know anyone with IT nouse or a local xbox modder/repairer get them to reseat the heatsink with some new thermal compound. Your getting 3RROD for overheating, if you let it continue it will inevitably turn into complete death.

once you're 360 gets the RROD it's only a matter of time until it's proper dead even after it's resurected via the clamp fix/towel trick etc etc

of course you get the odd occasion where a consoles life will prolong indefinitely but generally unless you can get it professionally reflowed it's doomed.

for the record GTA4 killed my April 06 360 after 2 days play and now i'm on a hdmi falcon, this game has killed off loads of consoles :(

mine keeps coming up with please clean the disk and restart!

:(

disk is abit bumpy around the edges now tho :p

edit... oops for the typo hehe :p

LOL I believe that red rings exist long before GTA came out.

Allready had my red rings a while back, I get the feeling it's not over. The replacement unit gives me the impression that it is on it's way out.

Now I buy games for the PS3 when there is a choice.

How many threads do we need saying the same old rubbish over and over again? Just to redress some balance here: I have two 360's, one a launch day, and one 3 months newer and they're both fine and have never experienced a RROD.
However my colleagues BF has a PS3 which broke when he started to play GTA the other day - it's not just Xboxs than break.

Rubbish. What are you on about m8!!!!!!!!!!

I got 3 red lights FACT. I have a PS3 and GTA and no problems FACT.

I do not care about your "friend" - I too have friends who had red lights with 360. HERESAY

If the issue is rubbish then it would not have cost Microsoft over a billion$ which they admit too + also why they extended to 3 year waranty. FACT

You are the one who is rubbish.

haha, Awesome. After all this time, there's still someone who thinks it's rubbish :D

And we know PS3's break too, It's usually down to the Bluray laser.

let me get this straight - because you have 2 whole consoles (wow!!!) that didn't break, the whole 360 failure rate epidemic is blown out of proportion???

with that kind of statistical evidence i'm surprised Price WaterHouse haven't called you up to purchase the data on behalf of MS.

lol some ppl :o

Calm down everyone. I'm trying to redress the balance that shock not all Xbox 360s break, or are just about to break.
Yes, the 360s have been known to break, I'm not denying that fact, but it's typical that a thread like this runs away with comments such as:
'I wont buy any 360 games as mine may break'. That's simply not a useful comment.

No it's not. but launch consoles are ticking time bombs, That's what we do know.

Current New built 360's are fine, 175w/Falcon model. Older ones, Are just waiting for a slightly hotter than normal day, with a slightly above average game playing to push it. and then O
