** GTA IV: It feels like a chore to continue playing SP mode thread**

I am 30% through and kinda bored. Seems like a chore to continue. I take Taxis to all missions to save time.

I'm the same, there's not enough variety in the core gameplay.

If it weren't for the bad frame rate in Saints Row, I'd say that game was more fun to play.

Exact same for me, what sent me over the edge was that damn phone ringing all the time and all the relationship rubbish, if I want to make friends I'll go down the flippin pub.

I've still not completed it stopped playing at the 3rd island.

They need to keep it simple like Vice City, instead of trying to be some gangster-life reality simulation.

As with most in this thread, I am suffering a little from GTA IV fatigue. For me at least I think some of that is just down to how much time I've been putting into the game. However, there's definately a feeling with this game that it's missing certain elements. I'd just like something to spend my money on other than ammo tbh.

I seem to be on the opposite boat. Now that I'm finished the story, I'm having trouble finding a reason to come back :p

Think am 31% last time i played it but am pretty much bored of it now, keep turning it on but can't be bothered to do anymore.

24hrs - 40% Just hit the third island.
Definitely not as fun/varied/funny as San Andreas. And yes a lot of missions just seem like chores - the main reason being that most missions are about 'some guy that wants some other guy dead for very little reason' and that even after such a long play time, Nikko is still a simple mercenary - he wants nothing but money and you can't even use that money for anything in particular, like actually climbing a business ladder in SA or buying properties.

And damnit NO, for the last time - I have better things to do than go on a virtual date with a virtual friend/gf

yes to most of that, the problem is exactly that, because of the oh so basic storyline he's just a bottom rung bad guy doing small jobs for money for no real reason. VC was on the way with buying clubs and stuff but this is strictly small time. IT doesn't have to be buying lots of stuff, but then whats the point of doing any of what he's doing. You don't need money to kill someone, so all the "other" stuff other than the main storyline makes little sense.

My main issue with stalker was with the story and the fact your an instant murderer for hire with no reasoning at all. Same here, you fight off some guys to protect a friend, thats fine, that doesn't need explaining. But you just start killing lots of people for money, you don't need? Oh wait, he was in the army so obviously he has no problem killing anyone. But even then, what reason.

AS for me being a PC graphics whore, sure. This game will look better on the pc, there will be a way to massively increase draw distance and not have it look painfully jerky at full speed, especially at night when the lighting effects seem to make it slower. What i was getting at, is if the story is utter crap it better look the dogs dangly's to have a chance of seeming good. Even then as I pointed out best graphics doesn't mean a thing, just helps. I would have prefered slightly worse graphics in GTA4 if it meant longer draw distance frankly, and could well do without the awful soft shadows giving awful hazy edge to shadows. Driving down a street under the train tracks the hazy shadows look like crap yet soft shadows tend to be a MASSIVE performance hog.

Feels to me like they put all the gfx power exactly where it was least effective. But that would have been livable if the story was great, but theres nothing remotely new, intriging or griping in the story for me in the slightest.

It feels like every truly awful gangster film that comes out now that all try to copy the godfather but fail miserably due to cliche'd crap writing and awful characters.

ASsuming they actually release on the PC< and assuming theres options to turn up detail/draw distance, damn AA and AF settings and somewhere disable softshadows that alone will make it feel that much more complete a city.

THe lack of different cars spawning is quite likely due to memory limitations, IE, 5 car models in memory is easier than 300, so the cars you see around are limited. PC hopefully they could expand that so the issue of finding varied cars isn't nearly as bad. unfortunately that won't fix the story. Hopefully the added content for 360 will at some stage pick up on the fact that loads of people think the story is pap, and work to make a great story.

it just isn't fun. Even the rampages are harder to survive, meaning less incentive. Maybe the formula got tired, or maybe 4 isnt that great, dunno.

The main problem is when im chatting to my friends on live! We are playing the game and just talking about random aspects. Often asking each other if we can do stuff that we did in the previous games. Often resulting in the answer of no. Being able to do stuff in the previous games and not do them now is my main problem.

Whay he said.

Ie. Cant swim underwater to try escape from choppers anymore:(

You cant put something in a game then take it out in the next version, it just leaves you wanting it back and wanting more:p

The game is still great though:)

65%, 40 hours and still enjoying it. I just keep doing lots of side missions then the occasional plot-driven one.

Not cabbed anywhere really, I quite like driving around the city :)

Also.. is it just me or does this GTA have the worst music selection so far in the series?

I think that the music is the second best of the series, next to Vice City. I sometimes sit playing it with iTunes store open on my laptop next to me. I have bought loads of music I like on iTunes - mostly from Radio Broker though.

I definately think they need to add some extra gameplay elements to keep the interest high in the genre though. I think that some Hitman style missions would have been cool, where you need to cap someone but you have multiple ways of doing it, including stealth and being able to steal clothes etc.

I'm exactly the same right now, a few times I've just turned the 360 off because I can't be bothered to carry on :( I only drive a car if a mission requires me to, I just take taxis the rest of the time and fast skip the ride.

I'm at around 40% and also a bit bored ... I also end up getting taxis everywhere, as a lot of the time I really cant't be bothered to drive a lot of the time !

I mgiht pick it up again over the weekend , to see if I can do the missions I'm stuck on, I hate bike chases !
