Just hit the third island.
Definitely not as fun/varied/funny as San Andreas. And yes a lot of missions just seem like chores - the main reason being that most missions are about 'some guy that wants some other guy dead for very little reason' and that even after such a long play time, Nikko is
still a simple mercenary - he wants nothing but money and you can't even use that money for anything in particular, like actually climbing a business ladder in SA or buying properties.
And damnit NO, for the last time - I have better things to do than go on a virtual date with a virtual friend/gf
yes to most of that, the problem is exactly that, because of the oh so basic storyline he's just a bottom rung bad guy doing small jobs for money for no real reason. VC was on the way with buying clubs and stuff but this is strictly small time. IT doesn't have to be buying lots of stuff, but then whats the point of doing any of what he's doing. You don't need money to kill someone, so all the "other" stuff other than the main storyline makes little sense.
My main issue with stalker was with the story and the fact your an instant murderer for hire with no reasoning at all. Same here, you fight off some guys to protect a friend, thats fine, that doesn't need explaining. But you just start killing lots of people for money, you don't need? Oh wait, he was in the army so obviously he has no problem killing anyone. But even then, what reason.
AS for me being a PC graphics whore, sure. This game will look better on the pc, there will be a way to massively increase draw distance and not have it look painfully jerky at full speed, especially at night when the lighting effects seem to make it slower. What i was getting at, is if the story is utter crap it better look the dogs dangly's to have a chance of seeming good. Even then as I pointed out best graphics doesn't mean a thing, just helps. I would have prefered slightly worse graphics in GTA4 if it meant longer draw distance frankly, and could well do without the awful soft shadows giving awful hazy edge to shadows. Driving down a street under the train tracks the hazy shadows look like crap yet soft shadows tend to be a MASSIVE performance hog.
Feels to me like they put all the gfx power exactly where it was least effective. But that would have been livable if the story was great, but theres nothing remotely new, intriging or griping in the story for me in the slightest.
It feels like every truly awful gangster film that comes out now that all try to copy the godfather but fail miserably due to cliche'd crap writing and awful characters.
ASsuming they actually release on the PC< and assuming theres options to turn up detail/draw distance, damn AA and AF settings and somewhere disable softshadows that alone will make it feel that much more complete a city.
THe lack of different cars spawning is quite likely due to memory limitations, IE, 5 car models in memory is easier than 300, so the cars you see around are limited. PC hopefully they could expand that so the issue of finding varied cars isn't nearly as bad. unfortunately that won't fix the story. Hopefully the added content for 360 will at some stage pick up on the fact that loads of people think the story is pap, and work to make a great story.
