GTA Map Location

I'd like to see a map like SA again, but actually filled with stuff. I loved how big the map was and when I first did the 'gang territory' thing I thought it was epic. Then the rest of the game is just totally linear, makes a slim attempt at the 'buy business, do missions, collect extra' money mechanic of VC, has lots of towns with nothing in them etc.

I totally loved the San Andreas map personally and really hope they do something along those lines again. The huge variety of the terrain was awesome. 3 massive cities all with their only very different 'feel', all the little hick towns dotted about the place, the mountains you could climb up and jump off, forests to go cycling around, scooting through the desert in a buggy. I just had hours of fun with the game. And then to top it all it was big enough to make planes actually worthwhile. Loved having dog fights in the fighter jet, or just cruising in a jumbo jet and then jumping out. Sure, it maybe could have done with a few more things to do in the wilderness areas but i spent hours making my own amusement regardless.

Much as i loved Vice City, the map was the one thing that let it down for me. Far too flat - not really anything worth jumping off of in a car etc apart from the odd ramp.

Should be London. Have to pay congestion charges and sit in traffic for most of the game and get caught out on everything you do because of all the CCTV :D

I really liked the Getaway. That was neat driving round London and squashing people in Regents Park. :D

Paris, as long as everything was fully destructible. Going postal in The Louvre or Mon Martre would be just too much fun.

Rome is a dump beyond the famous bits, wouldn't really be interested.

London is the obvious choice. You could have the police arrest you for taking photos and shoot you for looking foreign.

SA's map is terrible in terms of its scale. Granted, the map as a whole is probably about the same size as GTA IV's, but when you think SA is meant to be three cities, a desert, and some countryside, that just isn't good enough when compared to GTA IV's lone city.

If the cities in SA were the same size as GTA IV's, SA would be truly epic. But because I believe scale is important in a franchise like GTA (possibly more so than variety), GTA IV is my favourite map.

Have to say I think SA was the best GTA to date imho. I think the next one should be in based in South America maybe Mexico/Columbia would be quite a good location. Lots of different warring factions, crime, and drug trafficking I think it could be great. Bigger the map the better with jungle and urban areas.

Jungle and offroad would certainly be fun. Is there such a thing as map addons or mods for GTA4 that could allow this sort of thing?

I wonder how long it would be before real streets are mapped with the help of google street maps then put into something like GTA4 to be able to drive around and go into shops and real life places.

This is probably where games will be heading next (hopefully)

Unless they had a way to build each shop/place then this is unlikely. They could have course just use random buildings but then there would be no point in modelling it on an existing city.

Could be australia ;) with some mad scaling you could make the desert close by to like Sydney or something.. And then the jungles (up north?)

i dont mind as long as they put hydra's back in!! :D

and jet packs and parachutes....
No idea why they stopped these things =/ all gta4 has is silly helicopters (might have parachutes - can't rememer)

Another GTA in the UK probably won't happen...

I reckon a real contender for the next map would be Cuba - but due to "diplomatic" reasons that probably won't happen - but that would have great scope for good game play.

The South America thing could be quite good. I may be alone in saying that if they had something like in the last Fast & Furious film - i.e. drug runs in cars across the border - it would make for an amazing experience.

Should start a competition for map ideas, but give a maximum size sort of thing - would actually be a really interesting way to design a game level :D

I loved San Andreas with its variety of wide open areas, hick towns and cities. I hope the next GTA follows this path, though maybe in the far north of America or Canada. Then they could have winter vehicles like skidoos as well as having the character skiing. You could fight the mounties!

Alternatively somewhere in Europe like Rome and its suburbs.

Ice and snow would be good! But not really many interesting cities up there.

Italy. For the awesome roads

Excellent idea, Something like an area between Rome, Pisa, Veince and Turin with the mountains on one side and Tuscany on the other, or The whole of Sicily (with volcano)!

South America sounds cool as well, however now thinking about Italy that would be epic, perhaps one of the later missions (or various missions leading up to) could be the Italian Job. :D

That's pretty much what they did with the Getaway. (And I think to a lesser extent SA and GTA4 where photos were taken of loads of the areas)
