Josh, get a taxi bug fix mod or the traffic one, and also turn traffic density down to 1.

Disco, there's more to it then just slapping in the files for Ice. Takes a good 2 or 3 hours to get various mods installed and working, Ultra HD Textures, better blood splatter, B3 style explosions, vehicle damage, realistic vehicle handling, better trees, and the various cars you want etc etc

So what's the deal. If I buy this on Steam do I still need to install R*'s social/DRM?

If so, how tolerable is it? As bad as GFWL, uPlay or Securom? Or is it a minor inconvenience at best?

Yep. It's the same with LA Noire, Max Payne 3, etc. I think it's a minor inconvenience but it's another layer of DRM so others might disagree. It's definitely not GFWL or uplay bad.

Ultra HD Texture and Ice 3.0 with ENB 0.163 and I am sitting pretty.

Getting a solid 60fps with all these on and in High w/ 2xmsaa.

Got a few other mods going which add to the overall realness, sadly tho cars don't work for me. Whenever I try to import a car, I get the taxi bug, the respawn bug or it just crashes.

Meh I'll stick with vanilla cars. Going to 100% it before GTAV!

Add xliveless to the list of essential mods. Removes gfwl and changes to save game location to something more convenient. Also acts as an asi loader for script mods like simple trainer.

What on earth takes 2 to 3 hours? This really is not my first time modding, especially gta IV. Nothing about the install of icenhancer was anything more than read the readme and drag and drop the files.

My personal mod selection of about 5 graphical mods takes about a minute to install them all and looks a ton better that icenhancer.

Ultimate Textures 2.0, 9.rar files which take around 20mins to download and about the same to extract and upload correctly.

I downgraded my 1.0.7 yesterday and rolled back to 1.0.4 - got to say I think Ice 2.0/2.5 looked better than 3.0 - 3 has this yellowish tinge to the screen that I am a little put off by. 3 is defo better for fps tho.

2.5 was getting me around 40 and 3.0 is getting me a solid 60.

It took me about 3 hours to roll back, get ice and all the other mods done correctly with backups.

I'm a big fan of icenhancer, but I think v3 is a mess and has quite a few issues. 2.1 is worth a go, but as with any enb yiu have to dive into the ini files and tweak it a bit yourself to get it looking good and to your own taste

I've actually just wiped gta4, reinstalled and whacked on an old simpler enb, and it's now my favourite for definite. This one http://www.gta4-mods.com/misc/simple-enb-for-natural-and-realistic-lighting-f20765

I was looking at doing this last night, might remove my ice and try it, it does look superb.

Give it a shot, it's worth a go in my opinion. I found it a bit dull looking at first but it greatly depends on the time of day/ weather I found as the save game I kept loading was about 6.30pm. I much prefer a 'realistic' more muted enb for games anyway.

To help tweak further I've also added Sweetfx for smaa to smooth things out as there is no smaa injector in the default files you download for this enb.
I've also slightly tweaked the gamma to make it a tiny bit brighter, and lowered colour saturation a tad in the tone mapping settings.

Glad to hear it, I restrained from buying both those games due to fears of the DRM.
Might just have to get them as well now.

I wonder if this game will use up to 4gb vram @ 1080?

What you guys think?

Probably not.

Unless it includes some super settings that massively increase resolutions and AA samples. Which probably results in only a slight change in how the game actually looks. So can just be turned off by anyone not trying to achieve a raging epeen.

You shouldn't be worried about whether 4GB of VRAM will be enough, I have little doubt that I will be able to run it at 1440p with a single 780.

I just hope that it works as well with crossfire as gtaIV does, dont wanna get stuck playing at 720p cause they havent sorted the crossfire drivers on release.
