GTA4 HL2 shadows problem

Hi, iv got XFX 1gb 4870 and when im runing HL 2 or GTA4 i get all of the shadows like boxy/pixelated how can i fix this can anyone tell me.

Right so iv updated all of the directx and shadows are still the same :(... everything works fine... exept shadows here is a link to screenshot

the same thing occurs on HL2 HL2 ep1 ep2 GTA4....
i think there should be some sort of setting changed in ATI but i dont know what anyone know of anything?

Can you post screenshots? GTA4's shadows are pap anyhow, but HL2's shadows are stencil shadows iirc, and shouldn't be pixellated..
 
That's one strange problem with 2 games 5 years apart!. If it was me I would probably start by making sure I had directx 9 and 10 fully upto date. A bit of a stab in the dark but that is what I would do.

oh yeh :D :D:D il try that :P i only recently built the computer :D probably havent updated everything yet :P will do that and see how it works then
 
yup, that's GTA's crappy shadows for you.

Can you whack up a screenshot of HL2's shadows?
 
That seems really strange. Have you been into the Catalyst and set all settings to default?

Tried any other games?
 
what in-game settings are you using in HL2?
Which ATI drivers are you using?
 
Resseted all of my settings to defoult still nothing, the other games tried was GTA4 and erm well WOW and CS1.6 nothing wrong with WOW or CS1.6

Im not using ATI Tray Tools watever that is :P

And im not sure what drivers im using thats what i found out from the info center in Catalys control center

Version 8.12 try downloading a new one?
 
I had a similar problem with eve online. All i done to fix it was turn cat a.i. in the ati cp to advanced and all seemed good after that. Not sure why this worked but it did. This was on a 3870 but the architecture is pretty much the same so it may work for you.
