GTA4 & my PC??

I've got an e6600 not overclocked and the game ran good for me on low. It's a good thing the gameplay and story were so good though otherwise I would have been hugely disappointed. It's a great game. I've spent 40 hours on it in 10 days!!!

It's quite playable on Dual Core.

If that's the average then i expect your fps will spend a lot of time in the mid 20's.

Here's mine with a quad (don't take the benchmark too serious though).

Using a E6550 clocked at 3.15 (gained 10 fps by overclocking from 2.33)
8800 isnt clocked at all.

Very playable on a dual core!

I have the resolution set to the default of my 'cruddy' Samsung 226BW 1680 X 1050. Texture quality is set to medium and render quality is set to high. I have view distance on 50 and detail distance on 50 also. Ok, I know it won't play as well with everything on high and on 100 but it's perfectly playable. I also don't doubt that a quad core will give better framerates but I was just giving an alternative viewpoint to 'it'll play like ****'. ;)

Those are decent settings. What GPU do you have by the way? 1GB graphics mem?

A 8800 GT 512 MB. The only thing I have really low is shadow density which I think is set to 5.:) I'm not trying to start an arguement here just my experience. I preordered the game months ago and was sure it wouldn't play very well on my system but I have been pleasantly surprised. I have had a couple of crashes to desktop which is a pain as it takes an age to load the game up again.:(

EDIT: I just checked my settings again and I made a mistake with the detail distance, it's actually set to 30.:)

Just had another look at your settings. View distance of 50 @ 1680x1050 on a 8800GT 512mb:eek: Those settings would require more then 512mb of vram:confused:

Agreed, my view distance can be forty something max due to lack of vram and that's at 1280x1024.
I also find it hard to believe it's smooth. Could you perhaps use fraps and bench it actually ingame ( not using the benchmark rubbish which gives much higher fps than you actually get) ?

Please post up some actual fps figures - both from the built-in benchmark (I would guess 25-30fps) and in-game (I would guess 15-30fps).

I've just tried the in-game bench mark and you weren't far off with your estimate.

Ave fps 31.58
CPU Usage 97%
Sys mem usage 50%
Vid mem usage 98%.

I'll try fraps later as I haven't got it atm.:)

I know if I turn my settings up so that I only get 30fps in the benchmark, the game doesn't run well and the actual fps is frequently less than that.

It runs fine on my dual core.

How do I see the average framerate in any given time using fraps? I seemed to get over 30 fps whilst walking around then mid twenties driving over one of the bridges in the rain though it did drop to less than twenty a few times.:)

Also runs fine for me on a Dual Core with a 4850, i use 1280x1024, medium textures, highest renderer, 20 view distance, 100 detail distance, 30 vehicle density, and 1 for shadows.

It runs much better on Nvidia cards from what ive seen.
