GTAV performance thread.

Matt, did they fix the square shadows bug with AMD CHS?

And your 1st screenshot of the game(not the settings) looks horrible. That electricity post/tower at the back looks really bad, truck grill looks crap as well. Jaggies all over the place. The rest of the screens look great.
Also I noticed you did not have view distance set to max. Any reason for that? I never had any issues with performance when having everything maxed out, except MSAA. With 2 GPUs

I guess FXAA does not work on those areas, but it's something i don't notice when driving around. I might give MLAA a shot to see if that works with GTA, it might do a better job fixing those than FXAA.

I didn't increase view distance any further as it indicated i would exceed the memory limit, but if it works fine then I'll max it out. :)

Have fury pro at 1440p with a benq freesync monitor. Windows 7

When i try and set GTAV at 144hz i get a blank screen / monitor goes to standby, any ideas ?

Runs fine at 1440p at 60hz but anything over 60hz goes blank.

Have other games running fine at 1440p / 144hz with freesync enabled.

Been the same for the last few driver releases, am on 15.71 at the mo.

Also doesnt seem to dave settings, each time i go back in have to set back to fullscreen from windowed ?

Try cycling Full Screen Mode when GTA V is running by pressing Alt + Enter. That should kick you into Window mode then you can go and apply the correct GTA V settings in game, save and apply. If it does not remember the settings next time i would ask Rockstar support for help.

Usually if I get weird flickering in GTA V, this usually fixes it.

Matt, I remember all the fuss about AMD morpho something antialising in CCC. AMD I rememeber kept promoting it as using small amount of performance for nicer quality. I wonder if that is still usable and would make a difference?

Also, is trifire completely broken in win 10 in this game or just not giving proper scaling? How much uplift are you getting by adding 3rd card?

I'm contemplating adding 3rd fury x to my PC (for some other applications, not only gaming), so information would be useful for me, thanks ;)

If you guys aren't getting the weird stuttering under heavy combat I'm starting to think it's my CPU that's the problem.

Tried testing out GTA on the NovaTouch I was lent, but after 5 minutes I ended up quitting because of the stuttering when firing with fast weapons.

Thats got me 144hz working , dont know about saving yet, but happy :)

I got the Black screen/Standby as well in it (also got the BenQ FreeSync monitor on Win 7), all i did was, when the screen went Black, i just pressed Enter (as thats the key you press to say yes to accept it), then i Ctrl+Alt+Deleted to get the screen back on, then i pressed ESC to get back to my desktop, and then i just brought GTA V back up from the Taskbar, and it was at the 144Hz :)

i recently got a 4k monitor so i started playing in 4k, but im having issues with the vram usage.

i went from 1080p with everything at the highest with 4x msaa , maintaing 60fps with vram usage hovering around 4 gb

to 4k where i have to turn off extended distance scaling , turn down shadows to high and msaa off. this allows me to maintains 60fps but the vram usage seems strange, it sits around 5-5.7 gb but it some times spikes to 10+ gb after longer sessions .

when this happens the game starts to stutter , then drops down to 30fps and the vram usage wont go back down . i usually restart the game when this happens as it is unplayable .

anyone else getting this or something similar

win 10?
some memory leak bug or something, or just those fantastic current nvidia drivers :(
with 2 980tis you should be getting solid performance with everything maxed at 4k.

It's a bug introduced in Ill Gotten Gains Part2, the firing from cover animation causes stuttering and in intense battles where lots of players/AI are taking cover it can render the game almost unplayable.

Until Rockstar patch it the only fix is to roll back your game to a previous version.

Like muziqaz says it was a memory leak in windows 10 with sli cards.my 2x980's used to do the same, aswell as creating a MASSIVE swap file on your ssd/hd.Latest drivers seem to have cured it on mine. And the vram memory amount is just adding the 2 cards together,so when you were getting around 5.7 gb you were In fact using around 2.9 gb.

Yeah I had 400 hours played until IGG2 and I've played maybe 10 hours since... It ruined my gameplay experience entirely. I heard AMDMatt saying it was fixed earlier in this thread, so I started to assume it was a problem on my end, but I guess not.

yeah windows 10 , makes sense now as i use to play in 4k with dsr back on win 8.1 and i had no problems there.

I was getting the combat stutter too, rolled back and it's completely fixed.

Can anybody help with SLI please?

If I disable SLI, in my settings which are generally high, I can obtain a consistent 60fps without issue, enable SLI and all of a sudden I'm getting 20's (!) instead of the 90+ SLI was previously giving me , help! :o just seems to be a GTA V issue, SLI rocks along happily with BF4....?

Rolling back drivers makes no difference. :/

If your setup did work in the past then it must be a software issue. Just narrowing it down. If you're new to Sli, then maybe your answer lies in the Sli configuration in the Nvidia control panel.

Played an extended session over the weekend and performance is now great for me, stutter is gone and it's not slowing down after a few minutes any more, this is SLI and Win 10 with the .80s. Really enjoying it, just keep forgetting to play the game though and end up just driving around listening to the radio.

Im glad they got it sorted for sli users, theres nothing wrong with driving around listening to the radio :)
