if you run vista does that mean the card runs in 3d mode? therefor using more power and louder fan

Apparantly Vista Aero stresses the card more than XP would, this causes the fan to speed erratically in Vista, there is currently some form of fan issue in the drivers, this should be sorted with a new release. :)

Hmm a very interesting revelation...I've tried the CD drivers and still got the fan issue, is there any steps you took to sort it? , baffled here. :(

I didn't just install the driver, i made the cd autoplay then clicked on the catalyst link, it installed drivers, plus codecs plus the hdmi software. After all that got installed the card never seemed to rev up in the 5 or so mins i was playing doom 3 for. Usuallyit woukd rev up right away on entering a 3d game.

thanks for the replies, i think ill wait till wednesday with the new drivers see what happens :) hopefuly it be good

Good decision, you may as well hold on a bit as the cards only been out a week, give the drivers a chance to improve, and hopefully the 7.5's on Wednesday will be the start of the improvements. :)

So far its both card are even, and drivers can only improve (with ATi).
Not just ATI, 8800 drivers have been stagnant for months.

I should know, had one since early February and had to tolerate no drivers. Others have had one since launch.

Much room for improvement, stability/performance-wise. Just like the 2900XT.

Well then laugh away, because that's exactly what you can do under the distance selling regulations...

Basically, you've got 7 working days starting the day after the receipt of the goods to assess your purchase and decide if you need to return it.

Yes im very aware of the distance selling act, when i said 'while', was talking rather loose of time frame ofc. ;)
