GTX 1060 Vs RX 480 - head to head showdown

Would someone without bias for Nvidia post speculative, unconfirmed benchmarks that heavily favors one side just hours before all the big tech sites release their own? Heh, you decide.

Lol at all the haters already getting upset.

Give it a rest please - they have been spoilered as requested.

Official benchmarks will be available soon, and then we will see if the leaked ones were representative.

If they're official Nvidia benchmarks I can't see the problem. There's very liitle info at present anyway.

I seem to remember the AMD 480 slides were posted in the forum and the AMD Fury reviewers guide that was leaked was also posted. I think that caused controversy because some felt the benchmarks were too low!

These were AMDs own FuryX benchmarks :-

Benchmarks from Nvidia and AMD should be disregarded completely.

+1, on both fronts yes, Nvidia's have already been compared with TPU's existing RX 480 results and found to be utter trash, just like AMD own Fury-X benchmark were utter trash.

so the 1060 gtx is the same speed as the 980 in everything and is the same price as the reduced 980 are?

So Nvidia done exactly the same as AMD got slammed over the 480?

Poor time to be buying gfx cards since both sides are either offering the same performance we have had for three years for the same money or, in Nvidias case, if you want more performance then pay £200 extra.

Looks like everyone who was waiting for a performance up lift for their money with this long awaited new tech and manufacturing node got a kick in the teeth,

Yeah norm ally you would expect a decent boost in performance in 3 years for the same money.

But not this year sadly.

I had to fork out £600 to get a boost from my 3 year old £400 pair of 290x :(

Would someone who doesn't really care about brand loyalty take your post with any worth?

It is not hate. It is a thread based on well known details that apparently came from Nvidia. It was already in the 1060 thread, and is distracting when so many people will be looking for info on the GTX 1060 right now. Gregster knew exactly what he was doing lol. :p

I am one of those people looking for info in my boxer shorts trying to decide between 1060 and 480 :D

With my hand on my heart, this was the first time I have seen these benches. Seeing the date, I can see they are 5 days old and had I known that when making the thread, I wouldn't have bothered, so I did make a bit of a booboo but I also noted that they came from NVidia and always a pinch of salt needed with anything from the vendor and leaked benches. Only 20 mins to go and we will know

come on Gregster, you should know better than to actually make a topic on here today.

guys that are 3238th on the ASUS STRX OC pre-order list are very angry right now.

You made a mistake Gregster. Please hand in your PC enthusiast card and go play some xbox

fwd to 8:36 :D ,"Goodbye Warranty"

Where's the original link to those results in the OP? Rather dubious motive to post an old image on the day of the 1060 release. If you go to Videocardz website you can't find that article on the main page so it's not some recent article. I saw it myself over a week ago on Reddit.

The results are clearly fake when a 960 is only 10%-20% behind a RX480. Troll thread should be removed.

Literally 10 minutes till the NDA. If the 1060 releases with good cards being £250+ and AMD manage to get their act together with good 4GB RX480s... even with the bonus perfprmance the 1060 will be a poor buy. Close to £100 less for the 4GB 480 and only 2 less GB with not too much reduction in DX12/DX11 performance. It would make things more difficult for the 8GB models though. Talks a lot abnout 8GB pricing on the 480...

And for those who say 4GB isn't enough for 1440p... right now I've got the game paused in MGS5, which I've always ran at max settings 1440p (upscaled as I'm on a 1080p monitor) and gotten locked 60fps on my '3.5GB' (aka slower 0.5GB) 970. And I've played that game for hundreds of hours with no issues (other games I've had driver crashes recently). The funny thing is, it can kinda do 1527p, but I found it occasionally dropped below 60fps, so I turned it down a tad to 1440p.

Nvidia could shake the ground if the 1060 released with pricesd closer to £200 or even under £200, but we know they won't. The proof is in the launch prices of the 1070 and 1080, which weren't all that amazing and they launched before we had the drop of the GBP£.

Tl;dr (ref vs ref) 1060 10% faster than 480 overall - gets butchered in dx 12 & vulkan, quieter, cooler, oc's better, no sli, 2gb less vram, more expensive (£50ish).

Verdict? Flip a coin.

Depends on which review you read, some have the 1060 and 480 at same speed with 480 way ahead in dx12 games

But yeah a coin flip aor buy neither and get last gen.

Baisically a little quicker than the 480 in DX11 with both at stock, but gets destroyed by the same card in DX12 and Vulkan, also more expensive and less V-Ram.
