GTX 295 or...............

Why don't you overclock your i7 if you want more performance in general.

You have the Gigabyte 'EXTREME' mobo, which is a great overclocker, it's the model in the EX58 range which is most designed for overclocking!! It seems to be wasted on you...

I will be overclocking to about 3.8-4GHZ as soon as i get a new cooler im running stock atm will pick up a new cooler when i go to get me graphics card

Right 295 it is then il will get another when it comes down in price, are the single PCB ones any better??? and im getting 2 24" monitors the reason i want the graphics power is for mainly rendering more then games and i refuse to pay for a quadro card when i can softmod a gtx card

I personally think 2xGTX285's would be better value than TWO 295's, because you are in "normal" two-fold SLI with the 285's,, with 2 full megabytes per card. However, with 2x295's not only would they cost several hundreds £$ more, but i not so sure Quad SLI is that good atm is it?. I mean if a game "supports SLI", does that mean it supports "Quad" SLI Also?. And if it doesn't support SLI at all, then 2x295 effectivley becomes a Single "GTX275 yes? - only using one card...

2c;)

yeah mate go for the single pcb one, with the other one if you gpu goes knackered its fooked!!!

Do you mean go for 2 single cards?

A failed GPU will probably render both of the 295 variants useless.

From the reviews I have read the older versions looks better than the new low cost single PCB version.

Old Version.
Uses marginally less power
volterra-based voltage regulators - Fixed on new version.
Slightly quieter.
Looks better.

quad sli isnt that bad, its only a couple of games that dont like, and you can just turn it off for those games and put it in normal sli mode using the nvidia control panel options for individual games.

Only game i have foundthat sucked on it, was cod 5, in that if its in quad id get stutter, and in any other mode it would drop to 22 fps for some reason. But it seems to work normally now, so im not sure if a patch fixed it, or one of the random tiems i played around with my control panel settings.

you can't put 4 GTX295 in SLI only two, and its a waste of money tbh particauly for Nvida qual SLI for the price you have to pay you get hard anything extra at this point, its just for a brag factor if anything

very much doubt u would need the power of quad sli at 1920x1200. In ur situation i would buy 2x GTX 260 or 2x GTX 275 or 2x new Asus 4890s with dual fans.

yea, there is no need for quad sli at 1920, not even that much need at 2560 tbh. I Also am unsure which would have been better, tri sli 285's or quad sli, as the extra memory migh thave helped from tri sli. But then if i went tri sli i couldnt have a decent soundcard....stupid having to make trade off's even when your not careing about the cost.

I've seen what were claimed to be the specs for the AMD HD5xxx series, mostly it was double the shader cores, and higher clocks than the original 4870. These cards should be pretty good if the specs are to be believed, and may well be worth waiting for (well assuming the catalyst drivers are in good shape).

I recently decided not to wait as I don't believe DX11 will make a significant difference for at least 6 if not 9 months, so I bought 2 GTX275s, and I'd definitely recommend them over a GTX295, especially on an x58 motherboard which has plenty of PCIe bandwidth.

na no point in waiting, as the current gen will be off use the next gen can't be used to full effect till we get some decent games for them

Right ok i really dont know what to do now! cheers guys ha ha i think 2 GTX275's might be a good option then add another if i need to will all the gtx cards support dx11??

only the onces of the next gen. the current gen will be fall in prices quite a lot and thier effectivness will fall once with finally get our DX11 games, anyway that is monuths away
