GTX 670 Problem

I ordered an MSI 670 to replace my ageing 5850 and after using a driver wiper to remove my ATI drivers, I installed it.

Without overclocking, I ran Heaven, but it kept crashing after a few stages.
I tried to play CODBLOPS2, but it would crash after every few maps as well.

Tonight I did a complete wipe and tried again, but Heaven still crashes, though it does get through about twice as many stages as before.

Card temps are fine and never went above 60C.

My system was rock solid with my 5850, so does this point to a faulty card?

It could be not enough power to the card, are 2 pcie cables both plugged in?, Even try a molex to pcie connector, Other than that download MSI afterburner and underclock your core about 100mhz to see if its stable.

Leave afterburner running while running heaven to see if it spikes anywhere.

And try the 314.22 nvidia driiver incase its a driver problem.

if doing the above and it still fails then yes The card is faulty. Post in the customer support forum and ask for a replacement ASAP and see what ocuk can do.
Try the above though as it might be something simple, Even try another pci slot if you have one.

Cards not defo faulty if the above fails. As he has gone from AMD to Nvidia it could be leftover stuff causing problems wether he has driver-swept or not. I would do a clean install of the OS if the above does not work and go from there. Are you running EVGA precision by any chance? It seems to be causing the same problems you have when paired with the newer drivers in some cases. If you are try Afterburner only as your monitoring program.

Thanks for that! Underclocking = a perfectly stable card, which obviously means that it cannot run a the speeds it was sold at. I'm going to request an RMA.

Not surprising. Mine is only stable at stock. Even bumping the core up 13 mhz on the offset with stock voltage causes crashes. No overclocking headroom whatsoever so it is literally at the limit running at stock (pulls the full 1.175 volts under load and i get vrel and vop on the perfcap read out on gpuz). it also has a low asic quality of 62%. I am returning mine under overclocker's 14 day satisfaction guarantee and they are being very understanding. I bought the card as it was touted to be good for overclocking. Mine is bobbins.

I think the chip in mine was bottom of the bin and only just made the grade for a Power Edition Overclocked card.

Loads of people seem to have got cards that boost to over 1200mhz at stock (mine only boosted to 1136/1150) with plenty more headroom for overclocking so we just got very unlucky ( you more so than me though seen as yours doesn't even run at stock :p)

Also, out of interest what asic quality is yours? (download gpuz if you haven't got it and right click on the top of the window and select asic reading)

Shows how much a little difference can make.

62% = Just barely able to run at advertised clock speeds.
61.4% = Cannot run at advertised clock speeds.

That is very interesting. I wonder what the asic quality is on those that boost to 1200mhz and beyond out of the box.

my zotac gtz 670 boost's to 1125 at stock with the asic of 83.7 , is this a good card ? (not tried overclocking it yet as it is my first NVidia card in years)

Glad you found out why its crashing, Mine does the same thing at 1189mhz, as its stable though at 1150 i cannot be bothered to rma it as its good enough for me.

hopefully your next card will be a lot better.

if it is a reference card and not factory overclocked then that is pretty good.

n00b here, wtf is "asic quality"? never heard of that before.
will be interested to find out what mine is tonight.
