So, my MSI GTX 760 Gaming just died... and the original retailer has kindly refunded me the £130 that it cost me.

Question is - where now!?!

* Happy with AMD or Nvidia
* Gaming @ 1920x1080
* Happy with HIGH rather than ULTRA settings
* Using a quality 650w PSU
* Budget of up to around £200ish

GTX 960 seemed the obvious choice at first... but does it really offer me that much more than the 760 did, for ~£50 more?

Thanks :D

Yes, other than the 760 I have always been a 'red team' player.

Thing is, I'm a funny bugger over brands, not that keen on Powercolour. I toyed with the idea of another brand 290, but they're another £30ish.

How about a 280X?

Don't judge Powercolor by the name too much, that is one of the best 290s you can get and the factory overclock has it as fast as a 290X. The cooler is great and only the Sapphire Vapor X is better imo.

To add to that OcUK directly deal with any Powercolor returns so you should get fast and great service instead of having to ship overseas if anything goes wrong.

At that price it's a bargain and a lot better than a 960 for your money. That B grade 970 for £210 is worth a look though if you don't mind the 3.5GB ram thing because they still perform great at 1080p.

280X is not a bad card for 1080p but things are moving fast with console ports so the 290 would serve you better in the long run. Would you really have less raw power just because you don't fancy a brand :eek::D

R9 290 because it would be future proof @1080p for ages with that 4GB VRAM, I can max out BF4 @1440p with 4xmsaa @60fps with mine. Am really happy with mine and have been since april last year.

Any clue as to when the first wave of AMD 3xx cards are gonna be launching yet?

Currently making do with my trusty 'backup' HD7850 :D

The GTX 960 is a replacement for the GTX 760 so it is not that bad a choice and it does overclock well. Just depends whether you are one of the VRAM doom and gloom brigade with regards to the 2gb of RAM it has.

That 290 is indeed a great find, but to be honest you are right - I'd rather have a full 12m warranty.

Not fussy on memory, 2GB is not a huge issue... that said, I'm wondering if it's worth buying a cheaper card now, with the intention of selling in 6m and getting an AMD 3xx series.

Confused over R9 280 and R9 285... specs and benches all seem a bit random!

well good news, because you get 24m with that card.

you can still sell 290, if the 3xx series proves to be too good. I wouldn't bother with 28x.

As far as I am aware the initial 90 day warranty with Clearance / B Grade is with OCUK but the remainder of what's on the card will still be good with the manufacturer. If someone could clarify it would be good.

A 290 @ £ 149.99 is a steal, most probs would likley surface within the first 3 months. Beyond the warranty isn't that what home insurance is for?

I would go with the B grade 290 tbh.
