gtx 970 overclock help..

make sure the stats is ticked that you want, then down below is the ''show in osd''
click that on the things you want to see, like fan speed, gpu usage, memory speed etc

If from testing you are showing scaling from 1500 to 1580-1590 and you don't need extra voltage then run it where it performs best.
Mine loves 1580/8200

GPU-Z doesn't always give an accurate readout, it certainly isn't with mine, it may have something to do with the fact that mine is supposed to run at 1253Mhz out of the box but actually runs at 1354Mhz.

Strange happenings with GPU Boost 2.

Our gcards are similar mine should run 1354, but runs 1418 out the box.

? try on screen display tab, tick show on screen display on captured screen shots and videos?
tried that... still no joy for me :(

Looking at your screenprints, I don't think you are hitting 1600mhz or 1590mhz but its 1441-1450,. It would explain why you aren't getting around 13600-13800 on the graphics score in firestrike.

yea as stated I was going with the speed said in the top right hand corner of valley. but then I saw youre screen shot and I added my core and memory speed to my OSD and I saw Msi a,b was reporting it lower.

here's mine at 1450-3950 very close to yours, so yeah get tweaking son, more to come from yours.
:p

It's the stock cooler and stock volts is 1.218v and then up 25mv for over 1580 mhz. The tdp is 100% stock on the bios and i leave it at that all the time when using afterburner, when using gpu-z look at the sensors section to see how close you are to maxing the power consumption load.

hmmm I just tried to get to the 1500 Mhz and when I ran valley I just got a green screen then it dropped to stock clocks.
I dropped the memory down a tad to try this also but still no joy:(

Keep the memory stock and find your core first, if you're getting near your thermal limit the clock will drop down a bin 13mhz. What is your voltage in gpu-z showing and what are your temps and power consumption at 1450 or for your 1500 oc.

Maybe try running valley in windowed mode and keep tweaking the core up from a known overclock that is stable, and increase by a few mhz each time until you start to see stalling, artifacts.
Saves a lot of time before final stable testing in games etc.

hmmm starting to think ive found the ultimate pig in the poke on the silicon lottery...

I reset everything to stock settings and If I leave the memory stock and just up the core if I go above 1460 it ****s itself and drops to stock clocks

at 1480 it wont even run valley!! it just drops to stock clocks straight away.. any higher and I get the driver crashing.

Ive checked the bios version via gpu-z its the most uptodate one.

I think ill be upgrading from this next year...

don't get me wrong this hasn't cost me much ( about £50 through a deal ) and its still a big leap from the 7950 I had previously.

on the up side... Im sure my son will like the 970 over his gts450 once I upgrade...
hopefully AMD will have the drivers sorted and ill try the 390 out or I might even treat my self to the 390x...

Ok it is what it is, I was looking into your pcb and it doesn't seem in the same league as a gig 970 or a msi, I could be wrong but it looked like a reference pcb with a funky cooler with the fans underneath the heatsink.
Still you'll only be 3-4fps down on a 1600 mhz 970. I came from a 1175 7950 too and likewise the 970 is just a stopgap until next year.
