gtx 970 overclock help..

Ok it is what it is, I was looking into your pcb and it doesn't seem in the same league as a gig 970 or a msi, I could be wrong but it looked like a reference pcb with a funky cooler with the fans underneath the heatsink.
Still you'll only be 3-4fps down on a 1600 mhz 970. I came from a 1175 7950 too and likewise the 970 is just a stopgap until next year.

ahh well.. one of these things.. as I say its a big jump from the 7950 and for what it's cost me I cant argue.
I had planned on an upgrade next year once the new cards come out.

so I got asked to build my mate a machine to around the same spec as mine. so I bought a 2nd hand Asus Strix GTX 970 and swapped it round with my Gainward.

so I decided to have a wee play with overclocking it.

I still cant get the magic 1500Mhz on the core but im getting far better results with the Asus than I got with the gainward.

I set up the MSI A,B to display the Gpu core clock and according to that im seeing 1554Mhz on the core clock.

so looks like Ive got not a bad one after all.

well done fella, I was going to say there's no way a 1450mhz 970 can beat a 1580/1600 970. so as before the boost clock reported caught you out.
I use gpuz to see actual reported readings.

yea if I go to gpuz it still reports it as lower but if I switch to sensors and tell it to give me the max and run a benchmark its telling me 1554 for core clock the same as Msi afterburner. so pretty chuffed with the clock ive got.

what would be a safe 24/7 clock?

my temps seem pretty good during a benchmark with this overclock which surprised me compared to the old gainward card I had.
