GTX 980 Ti Pricing

What's the general feeling about SLI for gaming, project cars, GTA, Arma 3, DCS world, only used AMD crossfire and this price cut has got me thinking about it. Thanks

Hi there

Spoken with NVIDIA, tomorrow 9am we shall have all Ti down to £359.99 on a first come first served basis on what is left, also 980 will drop too. :)

When they're gone and the price goes back up i'll sell my 8 month old Ti then :D

As a potential SLI upgrader, I'm not sure £360 could tempt me. By the time I put a block on it, I'll have laid out £500. I would be better keeping the £500 and selling my 980ti for £200 when the 1080ti comes out.

Wow great Job Gibbo, thanks for that!

I'm glad I posted now ! Might just grab another for SLi

Because that's a card representative of most 980ti's isn't it!

You very keen I have noticed on being very 'selective' with benchmarks to justify 'unusual' setups like four way Titan-X (Maxwell).

Im sure a similarly 'selective' comparison review of the 980ti kingpin against a decent 1070 would show the kingpin wanting in some scenarios where lots of vram was being utilised or where the architectural improvements in pascal were in greater demand.... And saying that under ln2 its faster than a 1080...that's really grasping at straws.

After all its a £599.99 card which is in competition with other £599.99 cards (with two years more warranty!) that will comfortably beat it unless your benching under LN2. The Kingpin was never a sensible consumer card it was for two (or maybe 3) types of people

1) extreme over clockers looking to win competitions or get the names up on the high cores tables

2) people that wanted the 'best' 980 ti at release regardless or cost [or maybe 3) - people who had too much money and no appreciation of the practicalities of what they were buying]

The average new 980ti costing more than the average 1070 means that the 980ti's represent poor value for money no ifs or buts

Let me remind you about the post I was replying to

Anyone with working brain would buy a 1070. 980ti. RIP.

An 80%+ ASIC 980 Ti Kingpin was about £950 and worth every penny. It is still the second fastest card available after the Pascal Titan if you are into extreme benching.

Horses for courses.

I think there must have been a mixup at Gigabyte cuz i got an 80%+ ASIC 970 an its not the G1, its just the WF OC.

They will all drop yes, but I won't be selling KingPin at £359.99 I am a afraid, we only have 5 left and we probably want to keep a pair for internal usage. :)

nice deal i thought it would be soon just a little dearer than i think they worth but..when you factor in sli users and people who dont want to pay 1070 prices it makes sense to charge a little more.:)

Even the EVGA 980Ti Kingpin edition ???

So guys what is the best 980 ti apart from the kingpin?

Shame they won't be sub £300.

£299.99 would be more reasonable. Would leap on one then. Especially if they are now approaching EOL.

I recommend sticking them in your PC personally, but whatever floats your boat :D

If your in to 'extreme benching' your not going to turn up with the second fastest card on the market now are you... as you point out the 980ti is firmly in second place in Firestrike Ultra benchmark with you beloved 980ti Kinpin coming in 22nd on the single card score...

So in these terms the 980ti is dead if your under air or water a 1070 or 1080 (if your talking Kingpin money) is a better buy. If you want to top the extreme benching leader board you need a Titan X (P) [yes I know you have some of these aswell!]

At £599.99 the 980ti Kingpin is now surpassed with a better alternative in almost any scenario

Go back and take the time to read my last post and why I replied.

I am also a GTX 1070 owner if you are interested lol.

Which is a better card though between a EVGA 980Ti Superclocked and a EVGA 1070 Superclocked?

The price change would mean around a £60 difference between the two, but is it actually worth spending more?

I did read the post you referred to

Other than to be somewhat pedantic and add - or a 1080GTX if you have circa £600 to spend or Titan XP if money is no issue and your perhaps into extreme benching

I fail to see your point? The 980ti has been surpassed and at current prices is uncompetitive...
