I appreciate i'm new here and most of the forum probably don't know me as yet, i'm not trying to leap in the deep end here or jump on anyones toes, but i got a few days off and i'm not intending working for all of them which gives me chance to test out an idea i've had for a good while now, i'm posting this in pc gaming (although it covers all formats including retro games) as it only involves video games.

You may not believe this but the odd forum game can be fun, sometimes not for the game itself but the banter between members that it encourages, anyway i'm bringing this thread to overclockers forums, it's a couple of years old in this form (have ran it on other forums) but i have plans to maybe try and expand it to become an inter forum game maybe in the future.

For now i'll test it here like i have elsewhere and see what sort of response it gets, the more people who post the better and the greater chance of it evolving into an inter forum challenge, i'm warning you some peeps on other forums are a bit good, so you'll be needing a couple of months of practice. :D

The game

Ok just for fun i decided to open this thread, the idea is simple, the implementation not so, but this is how it works for now.

Someone thinks of a game, any game from say the last 25 yrs, we have to give a few clues to point people in the right direction of said game, whoever guesses correctly (and in the event of a few posting the correct answer obviously first correct reply) gets their username added to the scoreboard which is to be edited into the first post.

Afterwards someone else can try and i'll keep tabs on the scoreboard, sound like fun? probably not but it's something different and hopefully will get more people involved.

I'll kick it off with a few nice simple one's (to give you some idea of what could be used) and whoever can think of a game and a few clues first after the correct answers are posted can start off the next one, obviously there will be a need to verify correct answers and maybe verify the incorrect ones too after a few of those are posted.

Rules (rigorously enforced) :-

*Note initially red text was used to differentiate between waffle and correct answers, new clues, however due to forum colours this has now been changed to yellow*

1) If the correct answer is given please don't complain about the results.

2) Keep all game choices to english or Us titles only and make sure the game is correctly titled.

3) If after a correct guess you chose the game to be guessed, please make sure you'll be around within the next few hours (sleep allowed ) to verify a correct answer or maybe verify a few wrong ones too.

4) One guess per clue and no further guesses on that clue until someone else has posted.

5) Multiple clues can be running at the same time, this will keep the thread ticking over regardless of verfication by op, they must be numbered as clue 1, clue 2 etc both in op and responses to avoid confusion.

6) After a few incorrect responses or four or five hours (whichever is sooner) can the original clue poster maybe try editing their post with a further clue.

7) Mark all new clues and correct responses by using yellow text that way they'll be easy to find and we can kick off another.

8) Clue posters must state which company's machine they played the game on (If it's not a picture clue) along with the clue to whittle down the era.

To start here's 6 separate clues each worth a solitary point unless otherwise stated :-

Clue 1 (A really easy one)

A jolly giant from a tin is suitably capped (Commodore amongst others)

Clue 2 (Medium)

Devoid of two seasons these games included a north american state and encompassed the globe but only spawned one true sequel. (Commodore computer)

Clue 3 (Harder) *worth 3 points due to effort required* (Brainwork and searching Remember google is your friend)

Thoughts of steel balls whilst sleeping brought us a trilogy, the answer lies in the third, a cd conversion, a previously missing forth and the inclusion of lost in the middle. (Commodore)

And a few picture clues

Clue 4 *worth 2 points you must guess both games correctly to earn any though* (Catchphrase style so say what you see)

Clue 5 (Doctored image)

Clue 6 (Doctored image)

Dont forget to state which clue you're replying to when posting. :p

Clue2 = Summer games, Summer games 2, Winter games, California games and California games 2
You can only pick 1 of those at once matey (see rules) :)

Clue 2 - Summer Games (1&2), Winter Games, California Games (1&2), World Games, The Games (Summer/Winter editions).
Ditto above

Eek, does this mean I'm now responsible for posting some clues =P
Nope you can if you want but it's not a necessity, i have loads to keep this running for a good while yet.

What's left to guess

Clue 2 (Medium)

Devoid of two seasons these games included a north american state and encompassed the globe but only spawned one true sequel. (Commodore computer)

Clue 3 (Harder) *worth 3 points due to effort required* (Brainwork and searching Remember google is your friend)

Thoughts of steel balls whilst sleeping brought us a trilogy, the answer lies in the third, a cd conversion, a previously missing forth and the inclusion of lost in the middle. (Commodore)

waste of time doing this if your doing it on another forum aswell simply gooling thoughts of steel balls comadore comes up with your other forum if ur doing it across 2 forums at least use different questions
You're correct of course and that was the intention, but for the first couple i thought i'd test the response, no point doing the thread at all if there is a lack of interest, i'm trying to gauge the interest atm only, hence i've added a few different clues (catchphrase, doctored pics and cryptic) just to show what could be posted, there are many ways of making the clues different and less boring, timed challenges for differing points etc.

The first time i tried this thread in another forum over two years ago now it went down really well, if the thread seems to take off (we need a group of resident reliable posters here) i already have a group elsewhere (from back then) running this thread here alongside another forum to gauge interest and what i posted in the first post (inter forum) although hard to manage may become a reality, the main problem initially is getting a group of reliable resident posters.

Shove yourselves a few clues up between you and it won't be googleable.

Clue 2 - California Games?
Nope

Clue 9: Kirby's Ghost Trap

The word trap is a little too obvious in that one =P
Correct

you can't reel em in until you've hooked a few, if they're too hard initially no one will bother posting, i could have wound that one a lot more though :D

Clues 2,3,7 and 8 remain

Hehe, good point!

Maybe I should give someone else a chance XD

Someone better get mine soon though, I'm off out in a bit and probably wont be on till tomorrow morning!
I'll go for Capcom Fighting Evolution, even though it's wrong and doesn't contain anything angelic.

Clue 10

A classic snes title, fans should recognise the box, you may wish to back away from the monitor and squint a bit, makes it much easier. :p

It's really annoying trying to see the red writing against the blue backround of the forum :p
I agree, other places have a light background, i needed a way to easily identify new clues and correct answers when looking back over posts and updating the leader board, feel free to suggest another colour for here if you wish.

you know that pinball game appeared on ps1 under another name it had a table on it called beach babes and a police one ha ha eureka it was called true pinball pretty sure i still have this in the house somewhere i even remember the viking table music
Indeed i had it too but it wasn't a patch on the 1200 version though it had an additional table (on what should have been superior hardware) and it lacked that marvellous intro music as well.

CLUE-11=DOOM
Sadly not :D
