Guesses Please: What speeds do you think a B-Grade 7870 will reach?

Humbug ran a comparison for you matching your speeds 1220 / 1500 with a score of - 1604.

1220 Core 1500 Memory on a 7970 comes up at - 2094

Wow, 7970 with 60% more shaders, 50% higher memory bandwidth and ~65% price premium, running at same speeds, and the poor little 7870 is only 23.5% slower within the most shader intensive benchmark available. Bar-humbug:).

I had to down clock the memory from 1700 though. :D

@1215/1700

I agree though, not a lot in it.
My £149 7870 @ 1325MHz/1500 (24/7 clocks) is only 20.3% slower than that. I can run a balls out bench at 1355MHz/1550MHz but this is very far from stable. But I am sure at much higher resolutions the 7970 would pull away.

7870 even when overclocked still struggles with dips to high 30's on Ultra in BF3 with 4xMSAA though. Guild Wars 2 doesn't run great on my 7870 either, infact parts of it ran smoother on my 6950. I really think there's still more to come from future drivers.

What settings on Guild Wars 2 mate?

If you drop reflections and shadows down it should be a lot smoother... I find they drop FPS the most for me.

Oh i agree, there really is not a lot in it. Just shows how great the 7850/70 cards are, really superb value for money.

Remember though we are only at 1080p, the 7970 only starts to stretch its legs at uber resolutions.

Battlefield 3's Deferred AA is a killer on all cards, no matter which side you like.

The 12.9 beta's just released have improved frame rates considerably in Armoured Kill maps , the amd drivers used in the review were 12.8.

Sadly i don't think they'll re-run the review. :D

Please don't hotlink images.

Yeah but shadows and reflections make the game look considerably better. It only really happens in big wvw fights though and I've seen posts over on the guild wars 2 forum of even gtx680 users with the same issue. So maybe I'm just being a bit pedantic.

Hi

So I got my B grade Gigabyte 7870 .. installed all fine, no problems.

Installed 12.8 drivers and gpu-z. ASIC of 88.3

Ran Heaven benchmark at stock speeds/voltages with result of 1425.

So what now... do I need afterburner to start playing ? Should I jump straight to 1200/1300 ?

please tell me if this is off topic and I should start a new thread :-)

Thanks

When did you order yours?

I just got an email from them saying they have no stock and that it was a system error that I was able to order it. Quite annoying to be honest :(

Doh.. that's bad luck!:

Order date: 27 Sep, 12, 8:15 pm.

Was about to buy it a few hours before but got called out to do something.. meh! Am gonna see if OCUK will give me a discount on the full price one or something. There's a sapphire GHz 7870 in B grade atm, but I don't really want it as I've read a lot of reviews saying the memory doesn't clock as well

That's a great ASIC. If you are lucky, 1300MHz+ should be possible at 1.3v. I suggest you download and install Afterburner, set volts to 1.275v and try 1250MHz to begin with. If that fails, lower MHz or increase voltage.

I ordered mine the evening before you guys.

Hi, bad luck, happened to me couple of months back, 5UB is your man to sort this out for you, he was brilliant in sorting me out with a great card, post in the customer service section and ask for 5UB. He is awesome.:D

I've been contacting them via webnote, but not really pleased with their offers. I'll ask 5UB - thanks a lot!

EDIT: All sorted - they'd offered me a good deal via webnote, after asking 5UB in the CS forum about other options, I decided to accept it. Am happy with the service :)
