Guild Wars 2

That's about as far as I'd go. £50 is a lot, although I doubt it will be money wasted.

Depends on your perspective really, if its a game you can see playing for the next 6 months+ then £50 is pretty cheap with no monthly sub.

One of the reasons I am going for the deluxe version, an extra £15 is nothing really.

So in this game do we have combat where you push a button and you swing your sword, I.e. Dragon Age II combat system, or is it just like WOW, point and click? I'm kind of hoping for a more Hack & Slashy kind of system. What do you guys think?

I'm only going to get the normal version, I just can't see the other versions being worth it when most of the digital items are limited use, and the collectors edition is nearly 2x the price of something like the Diablo 3 collectors edition.

Check out some of the videos of the game, it requires you to actually aim your attacks or you will just swing your weapon and hit nothing.

will this be much better than previous GW incarnations?

I haven't played GW since my account was hacked, all my plat and ecto was taken and some rare's with Nsoft powerless to return anything....even though they knew the id of the barstewards.
Pointless spending hours and hours working though a game if it can be stolen in an instant.
Shame...I have 7 chars, from GW, Factions, EOTN....used to really enjoy coop missions....even with HERO's

It's a completely different game from the previous GW, it's the same in name and lore only. As for the dev/GM support when the game goes live, well I guess we will have to wait and see what the support will be like, but when it comes to hacked accounts and such it is usually the players own fault in the vast majority of cases, so use common sense and you should be fine in that regards.

I feel for you as the same thing happened to me. My NCSoft account got compromised and the basket changed the passwords on my 6 accounts.

However since then Arenanet did announce last year that if you were hacked after Oct 2011, they can now do an account restore if they find you were genuinely hacked.. and this was SPECIFICALLY because they have a similar function built into GW2 from the outset.

I do genuinely believe that Anet have learnt from the GW1 and applied their findings to GW2.

The pre-purchase guarantees access to all the beta weekends - the FAQ states the first is end of April.

Worth noting, though, that it's only pre-purchase that gives beta access, not pre-order; there is a difference.

I've been purposefully staying away from any MMO news for a long time but I've finally given in and read the last 2 pages here and done a bit of reading on the GW2 forums and I'm so excited!

I know pre-orders start on the 10th but has the release date been mentioned?

Release date is expected to be announced on the 10th the same time pre-purchase starts.

ahh...about a year too late for me :(

It really put me off and I have not logged on for around 18 months....I do miss it...now and then...used to love it...but such a time sink !

Care to explain? :) dumb dumb here! Is it where you just pay the full amount on order. Where as Pre-order, they take out the full amount once games is packaged, ready to be dispatched?

Pretty much, yeah. Details for EU are still scarce - but the crux seems to be only certain retailers will be offering pre-purchase, presumably those maintaining a healthy margin for NCSoft. You pay in full, up-front, full price and get full beta access, three day head start, etc. Pre-orders will just operate as normal, no beta access, and only a one day head start.

If you signed up for the Beta (back in March) there is still a CHANCE that you will be invited to the next beta event (20th April weekend).

However if you want to guarantee beta access you have to pre-PURCHASE. Which as it implies, means that you have to pay the FULL COST of the game upfront from the 10th April onwards.

I felt exactly the same way. Although in the great scheme of things I didn't lose much compared to some other people who got hacked it was still enough to make me almost want to give up. Luckily in my case my guild mates did give me bit of what I lost, and I was fairly close to a number of titles that I wanted.. so after a while not playing I slowly started. But even know I don't play as much as I used to.

Link to Anet Account restoration post.
