Guild Wars 2

I was having a conversation in IRC today about GW2s cash store, about things like if having extra bag slots is classed as an advantage or not (personally I consider it a convenience rather than an advantage), anyway, someone came up with a great term to describe the cash store in GW2. In contrast to 'pay 2 win' type games, he suggested this type of thing is 'pay 2 hat' :D I thought that was a genius way to describe it :)

Pay 2 hat? I don't get it..

Well clearly if you can only get it through the store it's an advantage, the only people who try and defend positions like that are people who want to be able to pay to win.

It's a joke about how TF2 is all about hats now, purely cosmetic items that you can get through a pay store. No ingame advantages.

1. In WvW, PvP and PvE battles the gem items provide NO advantage, a little convenience maybe but if the player manages his pack and such correctly it'll never be an issue. I don't consider the items an advantage if it is something that normal players can do just as well without.

2. Players can buy/sell gems in the trading post, meaning if I wanted to I could farm ingame money to buy gems from another play who put money into the store but needs coins. This way even people who never put a single penny into the ingame store can still purchase those items.

It obviously isn't a competitive advantage i.e. someone with more bag slots isn't going to do better in PvP or kill dragons faster.

It's definitely ugly though, bank slots included. Mystic keys and mystic forge items are also pretty ugly.

Pretty curious what the gold sinks will end up being ingame aside from armor repairs and fast traveling. The level 80 cultural armor seems to be about 10g per piece, so that's one I guess.

Just saw that myself, great news. Players should have the chance to see what a race is like before potentially wasted game time on it.
