Guild Wars 2

His argument about down leveling "nurfing" your character is actually total dogs dangly bits.

Traits and the benefit they give are not lowered.

So that 1200+ precision you have at level 80 is still going to give a significant damage advantage over a level 5 character who has none.

Yes it will be lower, but the % increase advantage it gives will still be huge.

His point is that your effectiveness is scalable due to the content you're partaking in, so your characters strength isn't consistent and the typical feel of RPG progression is reduced. (This also happens as dynamic events scale.)

Obviously as mentioned above there are clear benefits for this too, such as not making content obsolete and being able to group with people of any level.

It isn't an invalid criticism though.

Edit - you guys really need to step back from the hype cool-aid. I'm looking forward to release, and I'm sure it will be a really good game. It probably wont be perfect though and if someone has a negative opinion of some game mechanics they aren't instantly wrong.

There's a word for people who take offense from differing opinions, but i've totally forgotten it. :(

I wish I could remember that word right about now.

That just the thing your character does scale based on your stats so your relative power is still the same, in fact the higher you get the more powerful you feel when down scaled.

Leveling my guardian during BWE3 if I had a group of 2-3 mobs, it would be a very tough fight, going back to the same content when I was 15+ levels above it with traits and all skills those same 2-3 mobs were a walk in the park.

In fact I went back to the charr starting area where that shaman champion quest in as part of the event and was able to stand toe to toe fairly easily, obviously dodging the big hits.

At level 3-4 there's no way you can do that.

For example 1200 precision may give you 35% crit chance at level 80, you go to a level 10 zone, your precision is reduced to 120, but you still have 35% crit chance. You characters relative power is the same still its just been down scaled to the level of the content, so you dont run around 1 shotting everything. Which would be incredibly dull.

Well, whatever points that video attempts to make are completely ruined by the extremely childish attitude and over the top swearing. Petulant in the extreme.

In what way is it not a 'proper' MMORPG?

It's massive, it's multiplayer, it's online and it's an RPG.

Don't be anal.

Everyone knows what a current generation MMORPG is, GW2 is an MMORPG in description but it's not the same as the current generation subscription based MMORPG market.

There will be no raid content, there will be no holy trinity and PvE content designed around that. GW2 is very much it's own thing and criticising it for doing things/not doing things a 'current gen. MMORPG' does not do/does is stupid.

Quitting WoW to play GW2 for example and expecting the same sort of experience is futile.

Just to play devils advocate m8, what about EVE online? That's an MMORPG, no holy trinity, no raids, no dungeon finder etc...

Are we to judge every release against "that game". If it doesn't have a certain feature it doesn't fit into the traditional MMORPG style.

I understand that many people have grown up with WoW being king but the king will soon be dead in a few years and the MMORPG genre will be redefined again.

But the raiding, grinding, holy trinity is not what defines an MMO. That was just a consequence of the times.

Why would you quit WOW if all you want is the same?

GW2 is new, its different, some would say its an evolution of the genre. It's also modern. Games in general have changed significantly in the past decade, WoW is still based on a design that's 10 years old.

The lack of a subscription fee is nothing new, in fact it's old, nearly as old as WoW. People are just so used to forking out 10-15 quid a month for something they think it's the norm, Guild Wars 1 is a perfect example of why the subscription model work's. Not only did they make a great game but they made enough money to go ahead and create Guild Wars 2.

Is the game going to be a success, most definitely, in fact I believe it has already broken all expectations for ArenaNET, having over a million pre purchases and god knows how many pre-orders. The game is a success before it's even out. Sure it's not the 10 million plus WoW has but then you know what they say, the bigger they are the harder they fall.

30% of activision blizzards revenue comes from WoW, with upkeep costs in excess of $400 million even a marginal loss in subscribers would cause them a massive head ache.

Been loving the beta for a while now. Our guild AoA (Army of Albion) will be dedicated towards GW2. Focusing primarily on WvWvW and S.PvP. We're a laid back guild with mainly UK players been around for more years than I care to remember. Currenty we play a mix of Starcraft2, Battlefield 3 and some other crap while waiting.

If you're looking for a laidback UK guild, we're looking for you! We aim to recruit a bunch of new folk for GW2 building from a strong foundation.

Give us a shout @ www.armyofalbion.co.uk

Cheers

edit: Oh and we're gonna be at i46 for the headstart weekend if anyone wants to have a beer :)

Which server yous gonna be on? ..if Desolation, then please have a think about joining the OCuK alliance for WvWvW.

lol says more about the people who watch it then argue it has merit :p ..why I'm not even bothering to reply to the comments about it now :) well except for this one :D.

honestly anyone who watches that vid and then still argues his view, well they really not worth replying to.

Will be buying a new graphics card this month to play GW2, currently got a 5850 and was going to get a 7950, but thought I better ask your opinions on what will be better to play this on - ATI or NVIDIA? Probably hard for you to say at the moment I know, as I heard it's still not optimized for GPU.

Probably whichever one is going to give you the biggest bang for buck at the time of purchase.

It's called being objective.

I've played GW1, WoW and will be picking up GW2. I can also manage that without taking offense from differing opinions, playing defence force or thinly veiled personal attacks.

Really.

Edit - I dont even want to give the impression that I'm being particularly antagonistic. I just think you're too hyped and you're taking a difference of opinion personally.

I think the problem is that it's unrealistic to compare GW2 and WoW because the end game systems are so different. Simply saying "OMG NO RAIDS THIS GAME IS GONNA SUCK" makes no sense because there is end game systems in place and it's impossible to tell how engaging, fun and challenging they are going to be.

I completely agree with you, but I don't understand how that is relevant. The GW2 endgame (5v5 / WvW / Explorables / Orr) is still pretty murky at the moment and I'm not arguing the contrary, though I'm interested to find out. Unless you misquoted. :D
