Guild Wars 2

Also signed up for the beta. It's going to be tough getting in with over a million applications though!

Definitely looking forward to playing Mesmer!

Safe to say that I am hyping myself into a little ball of gooey game jizm for this.

I've been desperately searching for something to fill the Vanilla/TBC WoW void ever since that game dropped off into mediocrity. Every other MMO to come along has been a laughable attempt, really. 4 years ago I heard about Guild Wars 2 and I am actually really excited that it is now even at a point where gaming forums all over the place are discussing it... and 1 mill. beta sign-ups. Just wow. I hope it's here in the next 6 months!

Tell me about it, I loved playing GW1 with my friends at school.

We clocked over 3000 hours each on that game from launch until graduation and we still have a guild on it.

I played wow, as well. It was good, I mainly played it because of how much I enjoyed the Warcraft lore from 1,2 and 3.

Then like you say it dropped into mediocrity.

I was hoping Warhammer Online would be good, it looked so promising, then EA got their grubby hands on it. We tried to so hard to enjoy the game and it was fun, until you got past lvl 30...

I Still have an original collectors edition fully sealed an unopned.

We tried
RF online, ugh what a disaster.
Knight Online
DOAC ( which was great, and many of my friends till play it )
DDO, good game but it wasn't based in the Forgotten Realms, so we couldn't get our Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and NWN fixes
EVE : Good game, although it gets boring quickly once you have skills that take weeks. ( I keep getting emails saying I can play for free because of all the ISK I have :p)
Final Fantasy XI
LOTR, Just not my cup of green tea.
Star Trek online, good looking game. No end game at all really.

Now onw SWTOR, but the fun is fading for me. I really like Star Wars, always have always will. I think think the game is lacking somehow and I think EA is to blame again.

If GW2 is even 70% as good as GW1 was for us, well we're going to be spending a lot of time playing it :D

Serious question...why call it guild wars 2, when apart from the "story" it will have almost nothing in common with the original.

they could have called it guild wars : insertstupidsubnmaehere

sounds like fun none the less, and i hope that THIS game has a healer that is fun, yet helpful to play (like the original)

only part that will fail (imo) is the world vs world, and keep holding etc. it failed on WAR and is bound to fail here too unless the rewards/system is decent and really well thought of...

Guild wars is a brand, but they are trying to differentiate the new game from the old one, therefore they are adding a number on the end. If it was guild wars : insertstupidsubnmaehere then many players would not realise it is a separate product and may not buy it. You see this type of thing going on in all industrys, the iPhone is a good example...

You can't compare WvWvW with WAR, you should instead compare it with DAoC. WAR didn't fail because of the reward system, it failed because it had two factions, meaning that there was always imbalance, combined with some very OP classes meant that PvP became more annoying than fun after a while.

WvWvW will have 3 sides, meaning that should one server have far more players than the other two, they can just join up to defeat the more powerful server, that is what made DAoC a success and what should make this a success. Also with there only being one faction and far less skills than other MMO's, it should be far more balanced and hopefully there shouldn't be some ridiculously OP classes(Bright Wizard in WAR for example).

There were a lot of issues with WAR, but I can safely say PvP/RvR Scenarios were definitely not one. The most fun I've had in an MMO consisted of those scenarios, especially the low level ones! :D

I spent many an hour in FoW, Underworld and DoA. Can't wait for GW2. Already maxed out my HoM in preparation. I'm also trying to convince the missus to let me buy a new rig to play it on.

Oh yes, the pvp was the best part of the game! It was great, such a pity the game died out so quickly.

I never really kept armour sets and weapons. I had all the stuff you listed, but usually savlaged the set to buy another set here and there.

I do still have a "perfect" Fellblade from good ole prophecies :D
Not to mention the epic, Ogre Slaying knife hehe

I do regret getting rid of my warrior's fissure armour though, and i deleted my mesmer with his :(

At least my other characters still fissure amour and primeival.
Very ****ed now I got rid off vabian and all the other prophecy elite sets >:(

Urgh, does that mean they're connecting PvP to PvE again? It was bad enough when they had the HoH deciding which region had access to FoW/UW but at least there was a strong possibility your region would have access at peak times. If they're going to include constant buffs things are going to get retarded again.

Someone salvaged my three FoW sets for me. My account was compromised some time ago. They also took my decent un-customised weapons. Now my chars just have basic gear :(
Luckily I managed to get them into HoM before they were salvaged.

I really hope they add something like the Battle.net authenticator to GW2, loosing this gear in GW1 was upsetting enough to stop me playing the game completely.

Sounds terrible, I'd hope for an authenticator myself. I current have a Blizz one and the SWTOR on my phone and I find them extremely usefull.

Since getting hte blizzard one, my spam from "Blizzard" has increased 10 fold haha

They had 1,000,000 beta sign ups, which is a pretty staggering figure. Iv gone from optimistic of getting in to pretty much assuming I wont get in. I very much doubt they will even allow many more then 10,000 testers.

They want to stress test the game and find its bugs, a measly 10,000 wouldn't touch the sides, chances are the majority of the signups will get in, because if that many people are interested in playing the beta alone just imagine how many are going to want to play on the first day of release!?
