Guild Wars 2

Its funny I saw exactly the same comments about the sith in Swtor, then we got organized reached a point where I thought as a guild we were ready for wvw, we went in and kicked their arse, not saying we will here, but what I am saying there is no way anyone can decide who is the best server/sides right now, this game is way way to young still. WvWvW IS A MARETHON GUYS NOT A SPRINT!

As a guild we run wvwvw nightly on a very very lose base, often I do not even join.

Once we ready as a guild, which I think is still someway off, we will then start doing wvwvw properly, as I'm sure a lot of other guilds are in the same position.

One thing we will not be doing is having a alliance with some of the other ocuk guilds. (well not all of em)

My main problem is I get distracted by gathering nodes and events. I set out with a plan to do X Y and Z hearts. I end up seeing a event going on so I jump into that, then I see a few gathering nodes nearby so I think ah what the hell il go grab them then I see more nodes so I go grab them then more then more then ooo look a big event, nodes nodes ooo event. Before I know it I've ran from one end of the map to the other :p

So far my fav has been the Norn starting area its great and seems really popular as there was loads of people running about and jumping into events at the weekend. I did really like the Charr city though just looks fantastic. Although the Norn ice statues are really nice.

I wish I had a better PC so I could run this at higher settings. Currently playing on med/high on my Samsung 700 laptop. It plays really well tbh generally get around 60-80 fps in pve areas. In spvp or WvW I get between 40-50 which is good enough. I just wish I could play it with everything on ultra though :p Such a pretty game.

Mesmer is such hard work compared to almost every other class I've tried (only one I haven't leveled into mid teens is a necro now). But it's SOOOOO much more effort with the mesmer.

Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it, but fights just seem to need that little bit more thought put into them, just wish clones/phantasms had a little more health, they get 1 shot far too often even with my 50% extra health trait.

Really starting to understand the class now, use to think it was all about spamming clones for shatter - can't be more wrong! but now I'm seeing the combos etc and how well phantasms can work even against higher level mobs it's pretty rewarding. It's amazing how much they help out against boss mobs :)

ahhh this is sooo my problem :D

I can't get into this at all, just not my cup of tea (mostly due to me having very limited time with a 2 year old daughter).

I'm sure selling my account isn't allowed but can I give it away? Would rather someone else used it since I can't see myself ever playing it properly.

Hiya I've messaged you through the trust system on this. Cheers :)

Your right Halfmad Mesmer is a lot of work. I find it the most rewarding though. My first toon was a Mesmer and I just had no idea how to play it and got sick and tierd of dieing. I then tried another class then another then another :p I watched a couple of videos on youtube that explained the Mesmer so well and how to link combos together. So I rerolled a new Mesmer Norn (as Norn was the only race I had not tried).

Took a bit of getting used to but I really can feel the power behind Mesmer. The main thing (which playing other classes helped with) is that you have to pretty much keep moving. Positioning is so key to the Mesmer and use of the illusions and phantasms. Also weapon swapping is a big key factor as it means you can keep your illusions and phantasms more.

I think the Mesmer is a highly underated class but that is because it's learning curve is a lot bigger than other classes. But once you "get it" it's so fun and really rewarding. I've found myself getting into situations with my mesmer where normally I would die, no questions asked. But with a better understanding of my skill sets and just through playing it more I am able to survive. Granted with a lot of work but when you "accidently pull 5 jonans (?! the giant dudes in Norn area) that are 2 levels above you. Yet you still manage to kill them all that is such a good feeling :D

guess you wont be joining the desolation alliance guild then
which has already been set up btw
theres also a lot of organised guilds on desolation they just dont play at the french servers nightime so we lose hard.
most randoms wont do borderlands so we lose hard.
all the good guilds and commanders stick to the vizunah/desolation borderland map which is why we usually do well in one of those and eternal usually holds its own more recently.

but the other 2 borderlands non of the guilds are playing in are generally without a queue and empty so we lose loads of points over all.

the french gain 30,000 points every night when desolation and shiver peaks sleep

daine seems to be the most useful commander so far and his guild is one of the main pvp ones on our server.

would be nice if they could add a ETA timer for the pvp queues.

This would be the best thing they could do for WvWvW. Also being able to join as a party properly would be cracking as well (unless you already can and I have missed it). Either that or the ability to join any of the 4 WvW maps (i'm not fussy i would rather have a shorter queue time).

Yeah I totally agree, the Mesmer can be a very rewarding class.

When I first was picking a class I was looking for a caster, as I always play a caster in these type of games, and the Mesmer really did not appeal to me at all.

Then I got a bit bored of the elementalist that I had rolled and saw the mesmer guides that have been posted in this thread a few times. Straight away I was really impressed with how those guides portrayed the mesmer and what it could do, so I rolled an asuran mesmer. Not been back to my elementalist since.

At first the class is very confusing but those guides help me to really understand the class and once that happens it really excels in my opinion.

Yesterday I was playing some sPVP. I was defending a point on my own when two guys popped up, managed to down one of them and then escape the other to regen some health etc. He stops chasing me to go and revive his downed teammate, I come right back and manage to take him out too.

Then I finish them both off, it was awesome. Love my mesmer :D

Need to get 18 more wvwvw kills in order to finish my monthly achievement (unless it goes up again from 50). How its going at the moment, I think I will be lucky to get them. Although there has been times when we've been able to push them back, just not long enough. They have a habit of just 'appearing' in the blink of an eye most of the time though.

This game is pretty boring at end game. It seems they tried to create a DAoC style RvR but they've put no emphasis on small roaming group PvP, just massive zergs. The game also suffers the same problem that DAoC had in that it encourages alarm clock raids. Also being able to AoE stuff that you can't even see makes defending a keep when you are outnumbered impossible with the only option to redirect a zerg of equal numbers to defend. And which moron decided it would be a good idea to put jumping puzzles in WvW maps?

The sPvP is horrible, objective based PvP blows - not to mention it highlights how much better Mesmers, Guardians, and Thieves are compared to all other classes.

I concur with that , they should make it so that you can queue for all 4 WvW areas simultaneously rather than just the one. I'm always wondering while queued if one of the others had a shorter queue length. Just let us queue for all of them and go into whichever one pops first for us.

:p
Image snipped...

lol, thats quite funny actually. :)

The difference for me though is in the execution, in standard MMO quest fare, I *must* do what it says, I have no flexibility to do what I want. I must kill 10 bandits and pick up 3 apples. No choice. Whereas in guild wars 2 , whilst far from ideal still, I at least have the flexibility that I can complete a heart task in whatever manner I want, if I want to fight no bandits at all and just collect apples, I can do so, if I want to do no collecting at all and just kill bandits to complete, I can do so. Its still not quite the freedom that I'd like to see, but its a step in the right direction :)

I had the same thoughts until i hit level 30, then i got new gear and decimate everything. I went from not being able to really kill 2 mobs my level, to taking on 4 at once which are 2 higher. Hard to play effectively, but once it gels, that's it, it's fun to play, more so than guardian. Even managed to do AC with like 2 deaths.

Sword/pistol is amazing.

You can Q for them all, Just go back on the tab and click them, quite often ill go in the first one thats pops, then a few minutes later ill get let into eternal or another server

Whilst its still early days (and in the early days of Daoc it was all zerg rather than 8man gank groups) , I can see what you mean about small roaming group RvR. I think perhaps the WvW areas will need to be larger in order to achieve the sorts of roaming groups you had in Daoc. The frontiers in Daoc were huge and a roaming group could easily attack and evade. The borderlands in GW2 are quite a bit smaller and any small roaming group is very easily found and tracked down due to proximity to everything else.

The AoEing stuff you cant see is something I expect to be fixed in time, Daoc had the same issue initially (though obviously given that Daoc already had the issue and corrected it, GW2 should have been aware of it as well).

Not really sure what can be done about alarm clock raids on a global 24 hour game which doesnt impact on someones gameplay, Daoc never found a solution to it and I cant think of one either.
