Guild Wars 2

I haven't received one, but a guild mate did. Wonder if these are the same betas as the ones from pre-order, it only says weekend beta events for that wheras these may be full beta.

There will be no full BETA, they only do scheduled events same for previous GWs. CBA to find the interview but this was said recently from the Devs too.

Edit: Says pretty much the same on the official Beta Faq, so unless something new comes up it will be scheduled events.

A load of quite useless maths

Guild Wars doesn't kick you for inactivity. Back in the day the only way of getting one of the titles (Legendary Defender of Ascalon) was by death levelling a group of Charr in pre (You dragged them to a shrine, and let them kill you, repeatedly.

Eventually they level up, and then you kill them for XP), this 'session' usually is at least 12+ hours, and I have 2 LDoA's on one of my accounts, from before they made it super super easy to attain.

But sceptics being sceptics, there's a screenie from about 10 minutes ago. And that's only one account, notice the 14,800+ hours logged.

Also Guild Wars is a game that you can run multiple copies of at the same time (I've had 4 running on my main, with the other 2 on a laptop). Handy for those present drops at festivals.

I find your reasoning that people don't care if the gameplay has changed to utter ********. Unless you can tell me with a straight face that you played GW because of its lore and not the gameplay then the change of gameplay means everything. Who is this 'no-one' anyway? My experience of open world gameplay in MMOs makes me want to avoid them. My experience of GWs instanced zones was only a positive one.

TBH, I'm with Evil... I'm not a fan of open world games. 100% of the time there will always be some d*ckwad who thinks it's their god given right to **** up your gaming time for no reason other than it makes them happy to grief others.

Was playing Aion last week.. one of the early quests is to get Mimiti and some Shugo to meet. No problem, aggro Mimiti, pull her up the hill, job done. Except there was some t*at, who everytime I pulled Mimiti... Killed her. They weren't there for the quest, they just didn't want other people doing it.

I'm a fan of open world games, in my experiences every reason why someone dislikes an open world MMO is down to the implementation of the open world MMO rather than because its open world. Take that quest you mentioned there, easy solution to that, make it so that once you initiate the pull on Mimiti, the other guy couldnt attack it, problem solved. As I say, its implementation rather than the concept that I find people have the issue with.

... why in gods name would you bother getting not one but 2 'Legendary Death-leveller of Ascalon' achievements?

Is it? So what do you do if the guy pulls Mimiti and simply doesn't kill it? Preventing you from attacking it, full stop? If someone wants to screw you over they'll do it any way they can.

You can say its down to implementation for just about anything if you want to look at it that way. Don't like RTS? Maybe you just don't like that variation on it. Don't like RPG? Maybe you just don't like how it was done in that game. To me, Guild Wars was instanced PvE with a strong team focus even if the team was AI. Guild Wars 2 totally scrapped that approach and may as well be a completely new IP. Maybe I will enjoy it but I'm certainly not going to gamble £50 on it when my experience with open-world type MMOs has been horrendous.

Whats your point? Its a vague statement at best. The only reason I'm looking at GW2 is because I played GW but if you compare the two games and ignore the name there is practically nothing in common gameplay wise. And I find your reasoning that people don't care if the gameplay has changed to utter ********. Unless you can tell me with a straight face that you played GW because of its lore and not the gameplay then the change of gameplay means everything. Who is this 'no-one' anyway? This is pretty much why i asked the question a while ago why even call it GW at all...

i guess some people just don't care that developers and investors can get away with making crap games these days.not to say GW2 will be crap, but just that they can get away with calling it GW2, when it seems that it wont be anything like GW1 and apart from some story lines, and some enemys...it pretty much wont have anything to do with GW1.

Easy. Have Mimiti reset after a period of time if not killed. Simples. There is always a way. Other alternatives would include, make it so that Mimiti can only be pulled by people who have the quest active and if they have done the quest they cannot pull Mimiti again. Ultimately these are quick off the top of my head ideas, I'm not paid to sit and design MMOs, if I was I could probably spend the time to think of other ways to help avoid such situations. Whether you want to gamble the cost is entirely up to you, I am certainly not someone who is going to belittle anyone for a choice they make. I think it would be interesting if one day an MMO was designed which had both open world servers and instanced servers, that way everyone could pick the server type they want, never anything wrong with more choice imo :)

Its a pity that your experiences with open world MMOs have been horrendous, I am sorry for that, I have done literally thousands of "escort" style quests in MMOs over the last 15 years and I can count the amount of times that I have been repeatedly prevented from doing the escort on the fingers of one hand. Now that could be just that I have been very lucky, I dont know.

I wasn't questioning the fact you could have put in 25,000 hours as it is possible, I was merely stating that the amount you play is excessive. You are averaging around 6 hours a day on just that account alone, so when you include other games you have played during those last 7 years.. You have spent FAR too much time playing games..

Perhaps not getting into the GW2 beta is a blessing in disguise, and you can use it to go outside and spend time with loved ones instead of being stuck infront of a computer screen playing games..

Have Arenanet said how much the Collectors edition is going to cost? Thje prices of the standard and digital duluxe edition seem fair considering there are no subscription fees, hopefully they haven't put a ridiculous price on the Collectors edition..

Anyone who's a GW2 follower should know of all the systems implemented in open world gameplay and how many of the issues you and evil have, moot.

They promote and base things around the fact people don't always like to team/want to team and people like to harass others over mobs/resources. Now your kills help everyone else in the area no matter if you like it or not and that ore node you see over there Mr.Doe just took whilst you cleared mobs around it? Yep, you can still loot it too.

I'm sure you know this and this is just minor in comparison to how far above and beyond they've taken open world mechanics.

It's wrong to tell other people what they should do in their free time, within reason of course.
What does being outdoors have anything to do about anything? ;)

There's always the BWEs in April for those who missed this beta.
Not too long, and waiting is something Guild Wars fans should be well versed in :p

Pre-purchase gives WEEKEND beta access, not full beta access.

Haven't read about any other beta openings for the sign up ones only but either way weekend event is fine for most, only want to try it to see how it runs, no point spoiling anything for release.

Yup, so just worked it out at almost 6 hours a day over 82 month (5.95 hours a day on average)... does this include time with your computers just left running, and as you say instances of the same character/other characters? Surely you didn't play for 6.83 years every single day?

Am I right in thinking that GW 2 will have non-instanced, non-faction FFA open world PvP?

Please god let this be true. I have wanted a FFA PVP game for a long time. (I used to play Myth of Soma- PvP system was awesome).

I'm sick of faction-based instanced Pvp ¬_¬.

Think if DAoC, it's somewhat similar to that.

There are PvE areas on all servers where all players are friendly to eachother. But there is also a whole PvP area that is HUGE where 3 game servers are connected together and the 3 servers battle eachother. There is no fighting people on your own server in the open world stuff, just the other 2 servers. So you work together with your whole server to fight the other 2 servers and capture/kill stuff in the hope of winning.

Thankfully for those of us who have ZERO intrest in PvP, PvP in GW 2 does NOT take place in the open world.

If you want PvP in GW2, you goto the Mists and take part in the massive massive battles happening there. You don't grief other players in the open world.
