Guild Wars 2

You got any source for that? Not saying it's not true but I've lost count long ago of the number of times I've heard 'X feature is fixed in launch' or 'they changed it for testing purposes' and then it never, ever is.

Unfortunately I don't. I just heard it from my friend who I was playing the last beta with. So i have no idea if he had a source or not. I've been a little sceptical of it.

But what makes me believe it to be true is the fact that the storyline quests i remember for my Charr character had mission requirements something like lvl 8, 10, 11, 14, 18. And a storyline quest would probably one level you up a single level, requiring you to grind 2-3 levels to be strong enough to do the next quest. That doesn't fit into Anet's logic.

And I really hate the term 'Dynamic Events' because they're not at all dynamic, they are pre-scripted sequences that get initiated either on a set timer or when a high enough density of people are in the area. Going through a zone after you've already cleared it you'll just see the same events over again, nothing dynamic there.

And what event occurs depends on what the result of previous events were in the past. So the tenth time you run through a zone, a base you stopped at for supplies each time might be overrun with enemies because each time before, players successfully defended the base. There might be a limit on the number of events in each area. But over time, don't expect to see the same events every time. If the npc that runs an event is killed in a different event, he can't run the one you see all the time until he's found and revived.

Low level areas are different, they are highly populated, so bases stay defended and npc's stay alive, so enemy attacks and gather events etc.. occur regularly. Less populated areas will vary though, less players to keep places under friendly control or help keep npc's heads on their shoulders.

I'm really interested to see how far events go and what the trigger points are. For example let's say some trolls destroy a town, what happens if you don't take it back? Do they advance on other areas? If you take it back that happens? Essentially I want to know how many "stages" each event has and do they reset or stay at a set point until further player input.

I don't know if it's been posted here since the last beta, but there is a video on Youtube called 'The Beauty of Tyria'. A time lapse of several locations showing the scenery and how beautiful the game is. It's surprisingly good and shows how much we miss when we are too busy cutting the heads off our enemies.

From what I saw, one stage and they reset almost instantly.

I thought they hadn't implemented full graphics yet?

Been a while since i posted on here. I've pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 as well and took part in the second beta. IT's definately looking very polished although I did bump into a couple of bugs/graphical glitches that i bug reported. So hopefully when they announce the third beta, it'll be far better. Definately looking forward to the game :) I've returned to Guild Wars 1 since as it's relit my fire to get 30/50 in the Hall of Monuments and actually complete all the campaigns (very lazy player :P)

Quickie question though as this thread is over 6'500 posts long. Is there plans to start an Overclockers Guild once the game goes live? And is there one active in GW1 for players working on HoM?

I asked the same re a OcUK guild but nil response so maybe its something that should be drawn up add me to the batch (prepurchased GW2 Deluxe so get the tomb for guild not sure as yet what that would be used for though).

I was under the same impression. If they haven't, then it makes you wonder what it'll look like when they do let the cat out of the bag with the game on the max settings for those with PC's that can handle it. I guess we just need Anet to release more info regarding what they are giving us each beta and what they are holding back.

Exactly what i was thinking lol.

A lot of the events where you have to liberate locations/similar mechanics end up giving you vendors, mini dungeons or miniboss encounters at the end. If I can find a youtube video showing how they work it I will link it.

Trying to remember a few specific examples from the BWE's but it just kind of melds together as stuff happened. I can remember two event chains that involved bridges being destroyed, if you defend it you can advance on the enemy / if it gets destroyed repair crews get sent out and you obviously cant use that bridge until they fix it. Another event I remember was - a reasonably huge group of char were attacking a ghostbusters style ascalonian ghost vault. Pretty sure I never saw that successfully defended. After it was destroyed the ghosts escaped from the vault (20 or so) and the event changed to clear up the ghosts.

Ingame you never really get the whole picture though, you typically happen upon events at varying stages of completion (could be just starting, could be the last event in the chain) and then proceed until you fail (in which the event moves backwards) or complete it.

In reflection there are quite a few that involve changing the terrain somehow - events collapsing caves to stop enemies spawning etc.

The pve system is pretty fun though overall, my concerns really are more that the trait and skill systems arent overly interesting, and quite a few class mechanics aren't great. Also some concerns for complexity in pve, especially re: class balance, but will obviously have to wait to see how that pans out.

I haven't heard about this at all, are you sure you aren't it mistaking future graphical optimisations? Aka.. running better, not looking better.

Ohhhh, i thought it would only go up to Medium or something in the graphics menu in the betas?

If its at highest texture quality now, I'm a little surprised, it looks great, just some textures are pretty low res.

I did find myself taking time out just to look round in BWE2. But not for long, as there always seems to be a dyanmic event registering on your screen! ;)

Oh god, not SWTOR all over again! :D
