Guild Wars 2

This game is gonna be sweet, maybe something can topple the mighty WoW (I know people say that about every MMO release)

Nothing can kill WoW. The thing is WoW is a strange gaming phenomenon, games which do surpass it in terms of gameplay, graphics and quality still can't dent it. I think it's because the game is so easily accessible to everyone, it was a lot of peoples first MMO, lots of kids got addicted to it and invited their friends and the population took off like a rocket, the constant updates and new content helped a lot too. The thing is, even 1 million subs is good for an MMO, very good in fact, but people keep comparing every MMO to WoW and think "Well, it doesn't even have 1/10th of what WoW does, this game must be bad" and then everyone jumps ship, so the population dwindles and even more quit, then the game dies.

I honestly don't think even a new MMO from Blizzard will surpass what WoW did at it's peak, it was just strange how so many people played it, and it shouldn't be used as a benchmark.

That being said, I was looking forward to this game for the past 3 years, I heard there's an item shop in it now, it's not going to be some pay2win **** is it? Also is OcUK gonna make a guild? Could be quite fun. I've not participated in the beta at all, I wanted the game to be fresh for release if I decided to buy it.

The cash shop pretty much consists of vanity gear and things like exp boosts. Where it is different is that you can exchange in-game gold for the cash shop currency (gems.) So you could grind in-game gold to buy cash shop items if you wanted, though this also means you can pretty much trade real cash for in-game gold directly.

It probably wont especially be pay2win because endgame gear is plateaued out e.g. items from the hardest dungeon and items from the easiest lvl 80 events will be pretty much the same item level, there isn't really a competitive advantage to pay for.

There will definitely be an economical advantage though, in fact you could view the auction house as an extension of the cash shop - from a buyers perspective.

This should help a lot.

Gotcha, so although it's there it's not _Too_ bad, it can give a slight advantage but nothing massive to turn the tide of battle, so to speak, and comp PvP won't be touched by it at all, except vanity items. That's good. I had fears when I heard about it, that it would be 1 where if you paid money you got stupid advantages in the game, played a few of them before, would rather not go back to them.

Shame there's still no news on the release date, but I admire the "It'll be released when it's ready" attitude instead of rushing it out full of bugs/imbalances to get the cash flow going.

I'm hoping one of the existing guild leaders from OCUK makes a GW2 one, perhaps whoever is in charge of the WoW one? Would be great to have a group of OCUKers running about!

WoW wise I couldn't agree more, the only game that will topple it would be one that Blizzard themselves advertised directly to the WoW crowd, perhaps a WoWII. It'll die out overtime eventually though, but I'm not talking a few years and like Ultima Online people will be playing it in 10 years from now if the servers are still online.

When do you think this game will release?

I would like to know this to, but i don't think anyone knows! I probably could have saved my money and bought the pre-purchase at a later date, because i think the game wont be released until after july.

Anyone heard the rumours that they are delaying release because they are out of cash and need the presales to cover the costs?

I don't have any source for this but a mate who is really up for this game said he read it on the net somewhere. Anyone else heard this?

That makes sense when just releasing the game would get them a lot more money.

For anyone thats taking part in the stress test in just under 3 hours time. Remember to patch your client before the test begins. Nothing more annoying that clicking the icon to play a game then realising that you have a huge patch to download and having to wait ages for it to download while you lose hair (i apologise if you hairless gamers are offended :p )

Has anyone lost entheusiasm for this? It's taking too long and I don't like playing the beta because it'll spoil the excitement for the game but with it being there (on and off) and me not playing it, it's made me less bothered about the actual release.

Yes as much as I like the fact they are taking their time with it I am starting to loose interest in Beta weekends just want to get on with playing the actual release now.

I wouldn't mind if it felt unfinished or buggy, but it's been pretty slick so far. Unless they have actual chunks of content that aren't finished yet I wish they'd get on and release it.

I know its wishful thinking but if they're stress testing the servers, wouldn't this indicate that they're very close to releasing this game? I know that the rumoured release date is around thanks giving time(October). But I don't see the point in stress testing servers for a game that will come out in a few months, by which time there will be even more pre-orders and so more people ready to play by launch. I.e. a pointless test

Because of this, I'm wondering if we might see a release at the end of July? Again, wishful thinking and speculation, but I can dream dammit! :p
