Guild Wars 2

I am defiantly set on playing a Thief now, i tried almost every class in this BWE, and had the most fun with a Thief, so Thief it is! Roll on launch day now.

I done the same as you, played all the classes. My thought behind doing this was if they don't grab me straight away then the class isn't for me. I found the warrior and thief to be great fun to play, very satisfying to kill enemies with both classes, however the warrior stole the show, cutting up 3-4 guys at once is how I want to play :)

Theift is the only class i have not tried yet!

Wonder if that's a SLI issue, last time I was running SLI this time was on a angle card and the game looked brilliant, a definitive upgrade on the graphics, maybe it was just SLI I'm sure it will be sorted by release, be surprised if its not.

i had to disable SLI just to run the game with half decent performance mate.

running 580 1.5gb SLI, i7 [email protected], 8gb ram at 1920x1080.

I felt the PvP was a bit meh. I didn't find it exhilarating or anything like that. I played about 6 hours of sPvP as Wv3 doesn't appeal to me. In terms of other things it does I think it's great, very polished, looks great too. Just the PvP I felt was a little lackluster.

I had to disable SLI, shame as I have 2x670 4GB supergcocked cards and wanted to do a lot of fraps but actually had to turn down some settings to get it 25-30 FPS constant.

Despite getting slapped around like a cheap crack whore I enjoyed the pvp (when I got to play) have rarely if ever saw such fast paced and responsive pvp. Really need to be on your toes which is a contrast to most modern day pvp offerings.

On the proof I saw it will be way beyond pvp any other mmo can offer.

I had great fun with the beta this weekend. It was my first play with GW2 - my only dilemma now is which profession to roll with. I think I had most fun with the ranger, but as with most other MMROPGs I wonder how effective pets will be in PvP. If I opt out of being a ranger then my 2nd choice would probably be a Norn warrior. Melee feels very satisfying, and I like the Nordic style backstory. Guess I'll have to try and join up with an OcUK guild for even more fun :)

WvW did feel very responsive and there was none of that dreaded 'ability lag' which fouled up Swtor. In fact I never even gave it a second thought, everything happened when I mashed the buttons, not a little bit later. Performance on my now less than stellar system and connection were more than adequate and I have no concerns there. The mini maps do take a little longer to appear though, when entering a zone.

As for class... Warrior or Guardian. Though Engineer and Ranger may become alts. The trouble is that though wielding a two handed sword as a warrior did feel terribly satisfying, the other three classes have greater utility... Tricky.

I really enjoyed Ranger over the weekend. Only thing I found annoying was how utterly useless my pet was. There also doesn't seem to be a way of getting rid of it altogether either (which is what I did in GW1).

I was forever res'ing it, only for it to die seconds later. In the end I just gave up and left it to limp around.

So I'm not sure if I want to go Ranger or Warrior and just use a longbow as my second weapon.

My feedback for the BWE.

Having played all 3 beta weekends the game has been improved upon with each update.

The addition of the Asura and Sylvari really flesh out the story of the entire game, the Asura an excellent quirky race who resemble the posh geeky kids. There smart and they know it.

The Sylvari are a very spiritual race and while I prefer there story over the Asura one, the Sylvari zone was more appealing to me.

I played both a Thief and Guardian this BWE. The thief I got to level 12 before deciding to change, as much as I enjoyed it and had always intended to play as a thief it just didn't work out.

The guardian I got to level 30, played part way through Ascalon Catacombs (couldnt finish due to connect issues). Really enjoyed the play style of the guardian, the combat and utility offered were excellent. They are also exceptionally strong when played right, I manage to solo a level 31 champion at level 28, it just took me 15 minutes :)

Didn't do any PVP due to the queue system being a bit of a mess but was so utterly engrossed in the PVE side of the things it didn't matter. I spent a decent amount of time crafting as well. Got weapon smithing to 125 and despite gathering resources being a very time consuming aspect the actual craft system in place is fantastic and coupled with the incredibly good trade system I can see hours and hours being spent on both.

The black lion trade network is by far one of the best implementations of a trade system i've seen in years and puts the likes of swtor, wow and diablo 3 to shame, not only is it easy to use but the versatility it offers is second to none. Not once was I sat there thinking if only it had this, that or the other.

Performance was flawless for me, even streaming 1080p all weekend it was faultless, during massive events with dozens of people it was still silky smooth. There were a few graphical glitches in some areas of the asura and sylvari zones but they are minor and dont detract from an otherwise excellent game.

I see a few people say that there are enough events in the lower area's and to some extent I agree, starting out the level 1-15 zones have maybe 16-20 renown hearts to complete along with maybe a few events, which are fairly simple and don't have much if any impact on the world.

By the time you reach the next zone (sylvari area at least) events start to impact the world around you, most if not all the 15-25 zones will have one or more meta events, these are large multi chain events that change the world around you. My experience of one such event was in the sylvari area, undead are invading a camp side, you had to drive them away, then find the source and eventually defeat the boss, which as per the tutorial quest is a giant screen filling boss that requires you to be on your feet and alert, rewards were a boat load of karma, experience and a chest with multiple blue, green items.

Ascalon Catacombs was fantastic not only was it hard but it was also very rewarding, so to speak. Loot was ok although we only managed to kill the 3rd boss before I had connection issues and couldn't continue. I found as a guardian I needed to swap out a few slot skills to better aid my team. I opted for using skills that remove conditions from my allies and offered minor heals this was sufficient to get us through with minimal casualties. It is not a place you can just jump into and steam roll through, it requires team work and knowledge of your class, which is why I believe level 30 is right on the money for it.

Anyway, excellent game. August 25th can't come soon enough.

Thanks for that MM very helpful. Can't wait just need to light a rocket and get new PC ordered and built.... How did you find it played? Has any more optomization happened?

Played brilliantly for me, had everything set to max in the game at 1080p, was also streaming at 1080p on twitch and the game was fine. Although my connection wasn't up to the job and the stream was stuttering a lot.

Performance seems to have improved 10 fold since BWE 1 and 2 although I have upgraded since those tests from a Q6600 to an I7 3770k so that may well be the biggest factor.

There are a few videos on my twitch channel from this weekends BWE but I stopped streaming Saturday night due to connection issues. Unfortunately though twitch seems to have castrated my video quality and loots terrible but you can see it was smooth :)

Spent most of the weekend playing a tanky thief and loved it. Quite fun in PVE but in PVP, I took on an initiator role, or a chaser, using the shadow step skills to teleport into range and scorpion wire to hook people to allies (I play Blitzcrank in League of Legends and am essentially playing the thief in the same way ;)). Survivability seemed as good as any other class, if not better - being able to teleport away as a couple of people were mid finishing move is always fun especially when you can stealth after for a few seconds and potentially escape certain death.

Most fun parts for me are pulling people of battlements into an immobilising trap surrounded by friends, and the times when you have a zerg following you, you shadow step forward, and at the end of the return timer, you port back behind them and run back off the other direction leaving them wondering where you went. Fun times...
