He's the sort of gay in the village that people will be terrified of !

It *is* exploiting a glitch in the system.

This has been discussed a few pages back and seems most people agree with the bans, myself included.

A few people share your opinion though.

Edit: Thats directed as Rainagul, thought I was quick enough to not need to quote but it went on the next page :p

Is it only me who is thinking that the bans handed out recently is more of a shortcoming on Anet's side?

Yes :D

So what if people "exploited" the system?
The possibility to exploit the system, with something so basic as selling easily obtained weapons shouldn't have been there in the first place, they could have seen that coming from miles away if they tested properly.

I could understand Anet if the exploit had to do with third party programs or exploiting a glitch in the system, but this just seems a bit stupid.

I think Anet should have said "sorry for the mistake on our part, the possibility to do this is being fixed and for those of you that were smart enough to get on it, gg"

An exploit is an exploit, hopefully with waves of bans people will think twice about doing something like this again. Would you prefer ANet's appraoch or Blizzards 'meh' approach?

Not far off that, except mines a girl. Always remember being asked why I'd want to watch a guys backside all the time while I'm playing these when I was younger and first started on these games back in the days of UO and Asheron's Call, and i've always used girly characters since :P

I think perma bans for a first time offence is a bit OTT. I'll be honest, if I saw a chance to get very cheap weapons that would help me at max level, I'd struggle to resist (I honestly don't know what I would've done if Id known about the bug, definitely wouldn't have bought hundreds, but probably would've bought a few).

I think in a situation like that, it's easy to try and get yourself some nice gear and not really think it through. People definitely deserve punishing but permanently banning an account because someone might've got carried away (especially when they're potentially kids) is a bit much. Especially when botters get a 72 hour suspension after specifically downloading programs for the point of cheating.

In saying that, at least they're doing stuff about people that are breaking the rules, too many people get away with stuff.

lol you joking right, so you so its OK to cheat, and get just a slight slap, if people cheat they should get a perma ban ,, they deserve it, and more to the point when they don't other people tend to not want to play the game as its ruined by the low life cheats.

That excuse its utter rubbish, did not think it thought but I thought it through enough times to do it 30 times over!

One thing worse that cheats is people like you who apologies for them.

Generally i find people who defend exploiters are the ones exploiting. Trying to morally justify an immoral action is pointless.

Well PCGamer just reported that 3000 accounts were permabanned due to the karma exploit. I don't think it seems harsh, its way OTT for something that was there mistake.
This has nothing to do with real-life situations and morals because at the end of the day it's a game and it's here for fun. A simple rollback would have sufficed.

They seem to have a weird attitude with banning people willy nilly like with bad names and profanity.

Not sure if i'm misunderstanding and your agreeing with me or if your directing that comment at me.

If it is directed at me then you have misread my post or quoted the wrong person!

If its not directed at me then ignore this :p

Today we banned a number of players for exploiting Guild Wars 2. We take our community and the integrity of the game very seriously, and want to be clear that intentionally exploiting the game is unacceptable. The players we banned were certainly intentionally and repeatedly exploiting a bug in the game. We intended to send a very clear message that exploiting the game in this way will not be tolerated, and we believe this message now has been well understood.

We also believe and respect that people make mistakes. This is in fact the first example of a widespread exploit in the game. With this in mind, we are offering the members of our community who exploited the game a second chance to repair the damage that has been done.

Thus, just this once, we will offer to convert permanent bans to 72-hour suspensions. Should those involved want to accept this offer of reinstatement, contact us on our support website--support.guildwars2.com—and submit a ticket through the "Ask a Question" tab. Please use the subject heading of "Karma Weapons Exploit Appeal", then confirm in the body of your ticket that you will delete any items/currency that you gained from the exploit. You should submit only one ticket. Once you have done so, we will lower your ban to 72 hours, and following your re-activation we will check your account to make sure that you have honored your commitment. If that commitment is not honored, we will re-terminate the account.

This is a first and final warning. Moving forward, please make sure you that when you see an exploitable part of the game, you report it and do not attempt to benefit from it.

We look forward to seeing you in game,

Yours Sincerely,

Chris Whiteside- Lead Producer ArenaNet

Boom!

I'm agreeing with you and supporting your view point ;)

They should just automatically change the bans to 72-hour suspensions and THEY should be ones making sure the exploiters don't gain anything from it (I'm sure they can remove items/rollback characters)

I'd say they should just delete the character used to exploit, that's a kick in the teeth.

I think thats a very reasonable and even handed approach to the situation. It sends a clear message, only punishes serious exploiters (they didnt mention it in that statement but they only 72hour banned people who bought over 40 and permabanned those who bought over 100) and then gives them a chance to fix the damage they have done to the economy in return for forgiveness.

I think they have handled the problem very well.

I think Anet should have said "sorry for the mistake on our part, the possibility to do this is being fixed and for those of you that were smart enough to get on it, gg"

So people who exploited should make up the top 5% of the wealth, and not those who earn it? Nice logic. This is why Diablo 3's economy was completed ****ed, because people exploited it and Blizzard didn't give a ****, in-game money worth plumetted, and only items had any value.

I'm sorry if you think that the money pumped into the economy via an exploit should stay, but it will only damage the game over time, it needs to be removed, and people should count themselves lucky that ANET are giving only a 72 hour ban and reversing perma bans.

I think what there trying to do is to make the people who exploited realise what they have done by going through these hoops.

A bit like writing lines in school.

I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!
I must not exploit!

I personally think its fantastic!

Re the exploits Anet have always been happy to wield ban hammer, when I know this and I barely played gw1. If you use an exploit, curse or use daft names you shouldn't be all butthurt if you get a ban. It's a different approach to the blizzard "we don't care give us your money" approach, Anet seem to car about the rep of their game.

I'm more worried about all this hacking, i'll be logging in for first time today and hope it doesn't start for me. Bit confused why they have closed down password change though, I wanted to change to avoid hacks. :(

Just monitor your emails, if your getting spammed with password reset emails, just check your account.

Exactly, far to many people have come from WoW where they can say or do what they want without fear of reprisal. I for one hope ANet continue their current stance.
