Guild Wars 2

Great guide however I totally disagree about the need for this.

One shouldn't have to resort to googling websites to understand the game mechanics it should be obvious and if crafting is available from level 1 then there should be a feeder quest to introduce you at least to the craft masters.

Oh and the agony of them releasing a game 2 days before I returned to work :(

I do partly agree with you but in the end this is a game about exploring. It's fairly easy to find the crafting stations in any city and talk to the master craftsmen to find out what to do

I'd be keeping my fingers crossed if I were you, Arena NET are very heavy handed when it comes to exploiting anything.

What exploit? I bought 1 set of stuff for myself to use. I don't see buying 1 set of gear that's mispriced is an exploit.

Does each crafting offer a unique bonus? I mean do you have access to a weapon or item that non-weaponsmiths can't have?

People who can't craft their weapon are reliant on drops and whatever the normal weapon merchant sells.

People who can craft can create a weapon with the +bonuses they actually want and the weapon usually has slightly better base stats than a weaponsmith one.

Which is why all my toons specialise in the crafting that is most advantageous to them in regards to weapons. I do need to create an armoursmith toon though.

hence why anyone would pick anything other than armor + weapons like me I don't know. Imagine you can make excellent cakes and gems but you've got rubbish gear lol

Can you do WvW on your own or is it best to be with others? I was completely lost when I first tried it out didnt have a clue on what I was doing/going

Still unsurenif im spending trait points effectively!

Im a thief and ive put a few into up my defense and self healing but im wondering if i scrap that and put those points into damage i may survive longer as ill kill quicker, unsure

Working from memory (so don't kill me):

Armoursmith / Leatherworker / Tailor covers most of your (main) gear slots
Jewelcrafter and / or artificer covers the next largest number I think.

Weaponcrafter / Huntsman covers a max of 6, if you use two different sets of 1h/oh weapons and two different aquatic ones, but you'll only be using 1 or 2 slots at a time.

Incidentally, cooking and artificer (potions) can be used by all professions, and will be a reliable source of extra income when you think how many people are taking armour/weapon disciplines, and will therefore be a) selling their gathered materials quite cheap and b) needing to buy pots for their min/maxing. Also, they produce the dyes, which as noted above are liable to be very popular given that aesthetics play such a large role in gearing up in this game.

Personally my one character so far is a ranger with LW/Hunts (so armour/weapon) but I'm not expecting it to be 'best', I just like the idea of making my own stuff.

Incidentally, I think taking Armourer/Weaponsmith (the heavy armour gear-and-weapons option) has the most material requirement crossover of any combination, meaning it will require the most grinding/trading of materials.

I went in last night, never tried it before, didn't know what I was doing.
I asked in chat "It's my first time here in WvWvW, anyone mind showing me the ropes or mind if I tag along" and had a lot of offers immediately. Most significantly, there's virtually no downside to dying (doesn't mess up your team) and even if all you do is res one member of your team, saving them a run back, then you're pulling your weight. This means people who actually understand it are very happy to get you involved usefully.

I thought it was a bit intimidating at first, but I can't wait to try it again now.
