An afternoon spent walking around Denmark Street would be a good start ;)
Er I think going to Denmark is a little too far for me.:p

Remember to budget for a strap and a lead... You can buy rubbish leads for a couple of quid but I reckon it's worth getting at least something like a Venom, if you've got a half-decent amp. And maybe a wee cheap tuner like a Quik-Tune.
By strap you mean the strap to wear the guitar with? And lead to plug the guitar into the amp?

My rhythm guitarist has got six Gibson SG's but I remembered him coming with a Telecaster one practise and it played really nice (he's a massive Quo fan). Just rang him and its a Squier.
About a month ago my lead guitarist who usually plays three Steve Vai JEMs turned up at practise with a £99 strat that plays really nice. I'll have to ring him see what it is.
Up the Quo! Got their Greatest Hits and I love it. My Mum and Uncle have been to a few of their gigs, never taken me along with.

I saw Quo about six times in tne early to mid 70's and quickly went off them when they bought Rocking All Over the World out. It was the beginning of the end. About four years ago I was dragged along to a Quo gig in Nottingham and they were bloody awesome - its just a shame they can't write songs like they did in the early 70's. They've just released a cracking DVD called The One And Only which features four gigs from different periods - buy it.
(I've just obtained six DVD concerts but thats another story).

I started playing on a squier strat pack with that little frontman amp, it was great for learning on and is all you need, when you start out you dont need anything fancy, because once you start to get on with the playing you can still use the guitar through a better amp and it still sounds great, mine does through my randall RG75G3, and after a year of playing you will want more than one guitar trust me its like a disease

also will be needing some proper head phones, any suggestions, preferably also from sound control and not too expensive :)

I got a decent pair of Sennheiser's (eH250) from Thomann when I took up guitar and I love them. Work great for playing drums too as they are sound-isolating and allow me to play drums along to music :)

Denmark Street you goon :) Tin Pan Alley

And yep, strap to wear the guitar with- not expensive at all, in fact I've probably got a rubbish one you could have for free- and lead to plug it in- don't get a wee piece of rubbish, and if you get one with your amp throw it away, it's like getting a top-end stereo and running it through ipod speakers. Venom make decent enough ones for under a tenner.

I replaced my Gibson SG Special with my korean Squier Tele, I just stopped playing the £600 Gibbo pretty much as soon as I got a good bridge pickup into the £100 Tele.

ok people have mentioned the pacifica 112, is the pacifica 02 any good?

It's sufficiently worse than the 112 to make it not worth considering, given the small price difference (I assume you mean the 012)

Oh aye, on the subject of the Quo, both Rick and Francis have always used Telecasters- they both have Fender signature models, though they're a little out of your range I think ;)
