Gulf Oil Spill ( LIVE FEED )

From BP:

Release date: 04 June 2010

BP announced today that oil and gas is being received onboard the Discoverer Enterprise following the successful placement of a containment cap on top of the Deepwater Horizon's failed blow-out preventer (BOP). This follows the cutting and removal of the riser pipe from the top of the BOP's lower marine riser package (LMRP).

It is expected to take one or more days for flow rates of oil and gas to stabilize and it is not possible at this stage to estimate how much oil and gas will be captured by this containment system.

All of these operations are complex, involve risks and uncertainties, and have to be carried out by remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) at 5,000 feet under water. Systems such as the LMRP containment cap never before have been deployed at these depths and conditions. The containment system's efficiency, continued operation, and ability to contain the oil and gas cannot be assured.

Preparations continue for the planned enhancements to the containment system as announced on June 1. Work continues on the first relief well, which started on May 2, and the second relief well, which started on May 16. Both wells are still estimated to take around three months to complete from commencement of drilling.

BP declares oil cap a success

We are not losing millions of barrels of oil still. The new cap is a complete success.

That's going to look bad for them saying that when it's blantly obvious from the ROV cams that oil is leaking out at much the same rate it was originally, if not worse.

At least they have some production from it though, will start to recoup some of the losses :D

Edit: Looking at that latest feed from the cap, the cap is moving all over the place in relation to the BOP.

can't they just put a big tube over it and syphon it onto a ship, and then put a cap on that where it's above the surfice and easier to handle?

it's a disgrace, how on earth has this been allowed to happen is beyond me

this is the worst its been and the news is saying its a success . the cap is a fail and it doesn't seem to be getting better anytime soon

They reckon the leaks are to allow pressure to be released & they will gradually close them as they take more oil & relieve the pressure.

That isn't the bleed valves the oil is coming out of though, it's pouring out what should be a seal between the top of the BOP and the cap.

Time to start buying BP shares I reckon. :D
They have enough money to cover this & the clear up & the compo & still make profit next year.
When they do shares will rise & it will be cash in time.
