Gumtree

Sold two laptops on gumtree, its better in populated area's like cities.

Listed both laptops, had calls within a few hours, collected the same night by two different people

Jobs a gooden, no ebay fee's

I don't mind selling stuff on there but buying is a different matter- For PCs anyway. Most sellers don't have any idea what they're selling (calling the whole thing a 'CPU', saying it has a 320GB Processor, putting a picture of the serial number in the photos) because they're normal human beings not nerds.

This does mean you can get some bargains though.

Good for stolen electronics and furniture.

Also check out Freecycle... Sister got a "load" of Ikea furniture for free when she first bought her house. Some people throw out mint stuff. If you are lucky !

What always cracks me up is the people selling electronics

"Need gone now"

Why do you need it gone now? whats wrong with it, is it just about to break? or is it just stolen and you need the stolen property out of your hands.

I can understand when people want furniture to be gone now, as they maybe redecorating or need the space for something else.

I gave away a free three piece sofa on Gumtree. I had 3 people turn up to take it away in only a car! Despite saying you would need adequate transport, and a lady who asked me to carry it to her home. Had to eventually destroy it as I needed to move.

Sold my old tv on gumtree on friday.

A lot of people asking "is it still available?" even though I had only put the ad up 5 mins prior...

Guy who brought it offered £20 below asking but as it had only been on for a day I said I would wait for full, which he turned around and went "ill take it, thought I'ld try and ask" which is

In the end he got his Sisters bf to come pick it up, asked him if he wanted to see it working but just took it and off he went.

Pretty easy and safe.

they will ask for a bank transfer rather than paypal and then they will "send" your item from which point your item never arrives.
Avoid gumtree or ebay unless using paypal or collecting. even so check if the items are not stolen.

Bought and sold quite a lot through Gumtree over the years, I find it great.

The average clientele do seem quite dim but I've never had a bad experience.

Just recently sold a car on there, thoroughly nice bloke who bought it and we spent a good 2 hours talking about our cars.

If you know how to deal then Gumtree is sound, Loads of bargains on there & loads of Punters with cash to spend as well.

I bought a laptop off there. It was boxed and looked new. He claimed it was incompatible for his needs so needed to sell it to buy another, he said it was a gift from his dad.... Why not return to seller you wonder?

When I went to collect it he was quite an unsavoury character and when I queried about the receipt in case I wanted to take it back to shop under warranty he said he'd lost it and he couldn't provide me proof of purchase because it was on his dad's credit card and he had since closed that account... All just complete BS of course and it was obviously nicked given how cheap it was. I was quite apprehensive being in his flat checking it out. I had to keep pointing out to myself that he is half my size and I could take him if he tried to mug me.

Shifty as hell :p I was relieved to get out of the front door.

Would never ever go to their place, meet in public...

I'm new to Gumtree, but you can find some incredible bargains on there. Anyone else use it regularly?

I found a brand spanking new HTC M8 for £150, and a 2014 Macbook Air (turned on twice) for £300. It's worth checking if you need anything in particular

It sounds good on paper, but please do refer to this thread in the phones section which was only posted today.

I bought my mum an iPhone 5C from some fat slob on gumtree, it was working fine for a few weeks until my mum went abroad and after that she couldn't get a signal. She thought the sim card was at fault so requested a new one, but it still didn't work. She then requested the phone was unlocked and during this process found out it had been reported lost/stolen.

I have never been ripped off or had problems with Ebay. Gumtree however..........

Seems to be a lot of people who lack trustworthiness, bad adverts and poor communicators.

In the highly unlikely event those were genuine ads (99.9% of ads like that are a scam), they'd be sold in seconds.

There are bargains out there - I actually used to make quite a lot of money off gumtree, but you have to be extremely careful and basically keep a database in your head of what everything in your particular category of interest is actually worth.

CheckMEND on every item. And I called them within 30 minutes of them being listed. Definitely worth regular checking!
