Gumtree

And you cant notify the bank and prevent any payments from being taken? I would have thought preventing certain companies from accessing your account at your request to be a mandatory procedure in British banking.

Yes. You simply transfer the money out, then instruct your bank to refuse all payments to paypal. Or better yet NEVER set up a direct debit and only use your visa on paypal. Then cancel it.

I have had a chap try and claim a phone never arrived, Paypal sided with him but i had already removed the funds and cancelled the card so the account went Neg and i returned the debt collection letters to them with proof of postage and i never heard back.

Bought and sold a few bits and pieces through gumtree and never had any issues. It's brilliant for people not being fully aware of the value of what they're selling and being able to haggle them down further in person.

You do get some jokers though. Despite getting a bargain anyway, I remember one guy trying to haggle an extra fiver off to 'pay for his petrol money'.

Anyway, I'd say apart from the obvious stuff like cash in person etc, avoid the ads where it's either too good to be true, blatantly stolen or very badly written with next to no information on the item.
The latter usually ends up being more hassle than it's worth because the seller is more than likely a nob.

I won't suggest to deal there, rather its better to know the pricing trend from there and find the same item some where else. You can get idea of the pricing, that is what you can effectively do.

I think we must have dealt with the same buyer, exact same thing happened to me. :p

lol I don't drive, so maybe I should try my luck and see if I can get a discount to cover my oyster card fare on the next purchase :D

Why's that? Used goods are used goods.

Not a bad place to sell and buy but as normal you gotta be careful. Don't meet at stupid places. Make sure its public, well lit and etc.

Sold a few items before no problems whatsoever for 4 figures, bought a few things on there as well without hassle (one was Olympics tickets on the day for a super inflated price!)
