Gunshots fired at Trump during rally

From the BBC eyewitness interview it sounded like the police had time (a few minutes) to do something about the shooter on the roof, as he was being pointed at by other people, but they didn't.

Why didn't that person outside the perimeter run to verbally tell someone rather than continue to stand there waving and pointing? Did the BBC ask? Or are they expected to send officers to every person waving and pointing at a large rally?
 
I wonder how many seconds after the shooting were Trump's PR team thinking 'Ooh, this could play well.'

I think between 30-60 - nothing cynical. I thought it immediately.
 
Blimey. I'm honestly amazed this hasn't happened sooner.
Trump is a very lucky man and if he doesn't get re-elected now I don't know what....
About 1 or 2 cm away from being assassination history!

5 mins later they were posting a storm of twittter. Its a call to arms for trumps fans

The first thing that came into my mind was. I better start doing pressups and long distance running, ready to be called up within the next few years, for when Trump cuts the purse to Zelenskyy and pulls out of Europe. :o

He won't last that long. There must be 100s of loons ready to take a shot lining up now.

In fact you look at where the shooter fired from. It looks as stupid to suggest this was influenced by some kind of insider job/ pre mediated complete lack of security. A roof with line of sight to the podium and no one was posted on it. Someone really dropped the ball..... Or DrOpPed It oN pUrPoRsE?¿?

Looks like he crawled up the reverse face of what is basically the nearest building not inside the event perimeter - I've not bothered to watch much footage on it so maybe the media have covered it but I believe I've got this correct:

See my post immediately above - it seems he crawled up the reverse face of the grey building at the bottom of the image, the security/police sniper was posted on the red and white building just showing on the left of the image.
