Well thanks for a good evening , Mrlol wanted a replacement thats still compaireable and I offer the suggestion of something better out the box . a lot of posts have been overlooked in this thread since I have joined and while you are going back over them which I hope you do I shall be asleep in the knowledge I have helped the OP this evening where as the most of you have not , Good night

Smug mode denied, we've all been helping the OP for the first 8 pages.

Just buy a micra, your wife will be happy. win?

and gives time to plan the next gurgling v8 cash eater :)

On the positive side that big tax cost can be claimed back

Dont see anything you said actually helpping him and im sorry I have been more busy over the last few days adding more to my life than a post count than spouting crap about what you dont know about certain cars again as per usual and its because of your 1 track mind a lot of people leave these these forums .

I have actually been actively helping Robert out by calling someone about a specific car he was interested in , What have you done ?

Read the thread then

blah blah blah it was you who decided to say 'ive been helping the OP nobody else has' so you cant get funny when we point out we've been doing that for days.

As for 'crap what I don't know' my two main points have been:

a) A Honda Accord is in the same class as a Ford Mondeo
b) A Honda Accord is not anything like a BMW M3

These still seem like very accurate statements to me.

You seem to be positively steaming with rage, its very strange. Just read the sentance back to yourself again. 'these these forums'? 'crap what you dont know?' It reads like you'd imagine a furious rage to sound..

I have actually been actively helping Robert out by calling someone about a specific car he was interested in , What have you done ?

Is this a popularity contest? Read the thread to see what everyone else has 'done'.

Maybe you need to get some sleep Skywalker. If I turn into you (well the you today) in the next couple of weeks when I'm 'adding more to my life' then I'm taking mine straight back to the hospital. :D

Did MrLOL solve his new car dilemma then? :p

nope :S

got so many different options swimming round in my head i just dont know what to do.

Half of me just wants to be a little crazy, and buy a nice UK Turbo classic impreza for £3/4k and run it on the change for as long as possible.

Other half of me thinks i should be nice and sensible and buy a 2004 Accord 2.4 Type S or ST220 for about5k and pocket the change for running costs.

But then, the pot is going to run out no matter what car i buy. So would i be better continuing to pay out for car expenses out of our current money, albeit at a reduced rate for a car like an impreza Turbo (no £400 tax or £120 tyres). Then use the change for any big bills that come along.

But then the sensible side says this is crazy. Get a mondeo Ghia X and have done with it.

Its driving me quite insane :(

Despite owning one I really couldn't recommend it coming from something with the grunt of a VXR. It's a cracking cruiser on the motorway and even deals with the twisties well if you can stick to 60-70% but if you do try and push it and have a laugh then it will frustrate you as it's simply not a car that likes being driven in that manner.

If I was in your position then my choice would be the ST220 as the Mondeo platform is very good, it just needs to be set up for your driving style ;)

EDIT: If you want to show your Mrs how comparatively cheap a VXR is to run there should still be a thread floating around if you use the search where I outlined the costs of running my Elise a few years ago though IIRC I did get vilified for have the odacity to take it to a specialist to get it fixed rather than doing it myself :D

Put it this way, the point of you wanting to replace the VXR is because of the other half complaining about the costs. If you go the safe option, and buy an Accord or ST220 you can actually show her the change you have left over which I'm sure she'll love you for and have more faith in you for. This could lead to a better car in the future (but that's for another thread!).
If you go for the Impreza on the other hand, whilst it's a fine car in both our eyes, your other half may just think you've replaced one fast car with another.

So if I were you, I'd go for the safer option and pocket some change and use that to run the car. At least you'll be saving quite a bit.

hmmm.... ok

well as you can see i dont really post much, im a bit of a troll to be honest :) , but i too own a Honda Accord Type-R, Hell i have two of them as me and my GF both have one, ( abit inpratical i know but its only money :) ), now im not here to defend Skywalker just voice my opinion,

The ATR i feel is a great car you get a lot of bang for your buck and they are getting rearer by the day, there are currently only about 1300 left in the UK alone ( this fiigure was sorced from the DVLA about 2 years ago so it will be less ), would i compaire this car to an M3, NO!!!!!! in a straight line the M3 would p!ss all over the ATR, but round a track i feel that the ATR would give the M3 a good match. as i have seen ATR's give 300 bhp Evo 5's a run for there money ( last years japfest which i attened and tracked on that day ).

would i compaire the ATR to a st220 or an vectra hmmm... in the essence of there all 4 door, big cars then yes, but if its fun you want then the ATR has my vote, the ATR is a under rated and under estermated car, the ATR will do 0-60 in around 6 seconds ( if you want the vid to prove it i can post it), i would have an ATR over qite a few cars even the new ones but thats just me i love the ATR's Hi Reving Engine, and i have driven quite a few cars including the st220, and the ATR feels more confident to drive, when i drive the ATR i put 100% into it and she never fails me, when i drove the st220 she felt heavy and abit lardy.

as regards to Sky's 235bhp claims they are true ( i was at the dyno ), my ATR pushes 199.7 BHP ( with a few mods ) at the wheels so at the fly thats about 230 ish at the fly with 17% for transmation give or take.

but back to this league topic, i feel the ATR is not in the same league as the ST220, and the vectra but thats just my opinion i would rate it above them because of the handling and the drive and of couse they would be under the M3, EVO's and scoobys as i feel the next stage up from an ATR is a Evo or scooby.

:) thats my opinon
