Guys don't hate me for this!

But surely the underpowered consoles of the future are 'next gen' and the currently available slabs of badness are just 'gen'? This is all very tricky. How do I know which platforms to aim my neckbearded opinions at? I have Aspergers you know and it's important that my opinion counts and let me tell you about auto-aim.

You're overlooking an important part of the overall cost. The cost of playing games is the cost of the hardware plus the cost of the games. The amount of time for which you play a game is also a factor in overall cost, since it affects the number of games you buy.

Yes, a much better PC will cost double the price of a console. That's inevitable, as consoles are sold at cost or at a loss. Which is why console games are more expensive - the console manufacturers have to make profit on the software because they don't make it on the hardware. So you spend a lot more up front for a PC, but you get a lot more for your money and you spend less per game. You often also get lots of free extra content made by other players, which makes the games even better value.

So a PC gives you more powerful hardware, more storage space, more control, more choice in a multitude of things from resolution to input devices, more content in games and is cheaper if you play enough games.

A console gives you adequate gaming with a lower upfront cost and more convenience by not allowing you anywhere near as much choice.

There are reasons to go either way, but it's simply not true that gaming is more expensive on PC than on consoles. It is if you rarely buy a game. It's cheaper if you buy a lot of games.

This thread will go on for ever. Basically its a matter of personal preference and money.

I spend the money on my PC and love it, I have a lot of friends who own gaming rigs, I go to major lan events.

For me I have very little mates with all the same console, the main TV is hogged by the misses, feels less exclusive and is getting more expensive (Monthly subscription and cost of games).

Thats my opinoin and im sure lots of you have different ones.

Whoosh

That's great. :D

I don't know if I'm just being a materialist here, but I love having physical copies of games. Having a select few games that you whole heatedly enjoy, cherry picked to your particular liking, feels great. Making the transition from consoles to PC over 3 years ago, this is the only thing I really miss. MY currently library of games exceeds 350+, yet I only find a few of them truly memorable, the rest is made up by countless multilayer grinds, a bunch of indie games, cheap games from humble bundle and the like, and just games I'll never player in general.

I do miss couch co-op, which is possible on PC, but albeit much harder to find a good game and get it all set up. I guess that's what LAN is for.

Ps4 my bum.

I'm still playing the Uncharted series having finished The Last Of Us recently. PC gaming is great but great titles don't come out as often for PC like they do for consoles so I choose both. When great titles do come out for the PC though nothing on a console can top them especially where high resolutions and mouse and keyboard usage is concerned.

Why am I a fanboy?

I don't like idiots crowing that their PC is amazing and does everything and is the bestestest thing in the whole wide world all the while belittling and being condescending for no reason whatsoever.

I enjoy talking about both and it's rare that a decent thread pops up where I can have a discussion about it, I have nothing against the guy I just disagree with him, yet I'm not the one being a condescending moron.

But you are a fanboy. That much is clear by your responses to Slivers trolling.

You do know you can buy games digitally on consoles as well?

The exception not the norm, so it's not really relevant. And that just brings about the same issue that you criticise the PC for, having different ways of launching games.

I guess you've never had exotic PC hardware then, there have been quite a few games I've not been able to play at full potential because they either didn't have a crossfire profile or they were just simply broken and you had to wait for AMD to bring a new driver out.
Again not the typical case, hence "exotic".

I know you can use other applications to do things you can do on consoles but it's just applications on top of applications on top of applications just to emulate a similar experience.
That's a complete exaggeration.

It's probably why so many bring up and feel PC is dying. When 99.9% of the time it's just ports. There aren't really that many great performing titles on the PC compared to 10 years ago.

The majority nearly it's console priority, if that then they say it'll get fixed with the next version of the game next year. Like Adobe.

And this is what makes you a real games enthusiast.
