[H]-2012 AMD and NVIDIA Driver Performance Summary Review

I know what you mean i was ****ed when Skyrim ran like crap with my 7970, but what i was saying was, since Nvidia and Warcraft online were buddied up maybe this is why AMD found it so hard to get it working? Its not the first time Nvidia titles have ran like crap for AMD users.

But yeah i dunno what could have changed with an expansion to make it not work aswell :S

Skyrim running fine on my 7950s buddy.

The Bottom Line
If we could suggest one thing for each company to work on in 2013, it would be improve the driver performance earlier on. AMD needs to keep its drivers up to date and ready for new games during the entire year. It cannot slack off at some point, it is just not acceptable. NVIDIA should also try to improve its software in order to squeeze out extra performance in demanding and popular games. Having a steady and consistent framerate the entire year is good, but we would still rather have more performance if it is available.

See now, I read this and it seems to say "AMD give bad drivers then improve them until they are good, which is bad. Nvidia give good drivers but don't improve them, which is bad. "

I guess what they are going for is "Ideally, the release drivers should be high quality, so any gains afterwards should be due to application-specific tailoring." but it just kinda reads that they contradict themselves.

Ah well. We all know the REAL Nvidia vs AMD argument is about which of them looks best in a bikini.

In before lock...
:p

On a serious note. As some of you know, I've moved from 7970 Crossfire to a GTX690, moving backwards where figures (FPS) are concerned.
However, i absolutely love the GTX690 as it is more than noticeably smoother and i've installed one driver and not touched a thing and everything i play runs beautifully. Something that i longed for with the AMD alternatives, which was a terrible venture for me.
So i can see why "one being better than the other" can never be down to just reported frame rates.

That is a generalisation of my experience, sure other's have been more successful and some even worse.

It seems that certain systems have issues with either. In Rossi's experience, he has more success with Nvidia and with Suarez, he has had more success with AMD.

I have to say that 670 Sli is a hell of a lot better than 7950 Crossfire. It may not be as fast according to the numbers but it's so much easier to use and a much smoother experience.

Just my 10p worth from using both setups.

Only single card though I can't speak for dual GPU but I'd put money on Nvidia being better for that after seeing those frame latency graphs and peoples experiences.

Mmmm you still get varying results. 7950 CF is as good as 680 SLI now for me.

Wasn't at first. It wasn't a mess but it was nowhere near as robust at nVidia multi GPU... for me.

I think SLI uses better frame metering to ensure the frames are smoothly timed whereas CrossFire just uses brute force to spit out as many frames as possible, paying less respect to the actual timing of the frames.

I'm impressed that I just plugged in the 670's fired it up and the drivers set them selves up for my new cards and Nvidia experience re-configured all my games accordingly. There are no jumps in performance or spikes and both cards show a consistent and constant usage which is more than likely why it feels smoother.

It just works and I'm seeing gains in pretty much everything I have tried. In all honesty I can not see a difference between a 680 and 670 even my Valley score on a single card is the same.

Just need to fit it all in my new case when it arrives tomorrow but really liking 670 Sli so far.

My 660ti was far smoother and was a lot less messing about than my 7950.

Once radeon pro is setup my 7950 runs perfectly smooth but it is a bit of a mess around starting it every time I want to play.

So for me the extra performance of the 7950 is great but I still think the nvidia has much smoother out the box performance.

Is it just the 7950 people are having issues with? Like my 6850 couldn't be more perfect even if it was gold plated :p
