[H]ardOCP: GeForce Partner Program Impacts Consumer Choice

Some would argue that buying nVidia products whilst knowing about their business practices is defending and promoting it.

The problem with that is that by your argument I shouldnt own any of the PC components that I own, or a car, or use petrol, or probably even have electric or running water in home. In other words its nonsense to suggest nvidia are the only company doing things that are not in consumers interests. I might not like it but sometimes you have no choice if you want the things you want.

You can blame AMD for lacking competitive products and leading customers to buy Nvidia cards. That's fine, but you cannot blame AMD for Nvidia's business practices. It's nVidia's decision and theirs alone.

I can, and I am. The ever-increasing divide is exactly why they're able to do this.

"That's not fair". Lifes not fair, mate.

You know full well it was AMD that leaked the spectre information before the embargo lifted as well, that doesn't take a genius to workout. If only they'd just focus on what they're doing and not their competitors, we wouldn't be stuck with subpar GPUs.

Yer and unlike some who shout grrr Intel grrr Nvida, I remember when AMD did plenty of shady anti consumer "poo" them selfs in the past and prob still do now.

Less money on the Investigation Unit AMD and spend it GPU R&D instead.

Having said that, I hope this **** get blown open wide!

Reviewing nVidia hardware positively because they actually do make decent hardware (value aside) doesn't make them pro nVidia. The same way that criticism of nVidia doesn't make someone pro AMD.

State the obvious. Some of their activity on their forums in the past has seemed a bit biased, deleting Nano reviews when they weren't sent a sample for example.

Chap seems to be an utter ****, just the way he handles criticism seems to be like a 17yr old teenager. That said if he is onto something here and pushes it then good on him.

He's not afraid to speak his mind which is both a good and bad trait. He's been called out in the past for things going off half-cocked. I don't really see anything undermining or bad about the fact he's playing Chinese whispers with AMD, though. They play the instigator time and time again. It's his duty to act upon it, doesn't matter where it comes from.

That goes for most tech companies, Criticise there products and they stop sending samples (they are in there right to, Nvidia does this, AMD did this to Hardocp and KitGuru, CoolerMaster have just done this with GamersNexus and others most recently

This just makes me wonder what AMD has on the horizon that has Nvidia so worried.
The fact that they're working with Intel, so no longer need nVidia tech to make their iGPUs. Intel and nVidia had a patent licensing deal that ended last year. It gave Intel access to patents that they used to make their integrated GPUs.

Nvidia have been wanting to get into making CPUs for quite a while, but AMD and Intel won't grant them with an x64 or x86 license to do so.

They have tried to branch out in a few different ways and have blocked, so they've had to focus on discrete GPUs and the high performance computing market.

They've rubbed companies up the wrong way so many times that ties to some have been cut.

Apple no longer works with them, Sony no longer works with them for 2 reasons I think, one is "bumpgate" where nVidia GPUs were dying en masse while nVidia pretended they weren't, two, I think is because a similar situation occurred with the original PS3s, and nVidia made it very difficult for Sony by being awkward about how they could package the PS3 GPU.

They claimed that consoles aren't where their interest lies when it was announced that AMD got the PS4 and Xbox 1 APU contracts, whilst they were likely already working with Nintendo on the Switch, which shows bitterness there.

They tried to branch out to tablets, and I don't think that worked too well, with one of the models needing a major recall.

So while they currently make the best GPUs, they know it won't last forever, and their attempts to branch out haven't gone too well. AMD needs a budget to compete with nVidia, and the Intel deal is going to be something that gives them more budget to compete against nVidia, as well as brand recognition.

Nvidia has been making record earnings, but it's all GPU centric, so actual competition in the discrete GPU market would hurt their profits quite a lot.

How much are you being compensated as a Focus Group member?

It literally doesn't matter that AMD leaked the info, HardOCP are claiming that other companies corroborated the information, and that they were actually the original source, but can't go on record because they'll he fired or the company would be black listed.

You're really trying hard to discredit this story simply because AMD provided information on it. It's literally irrelevant if company employees are confirming it.

The possibility of AMD leveraging IF in gpus with Navi, they saw what it did to intel and are worried it will also kill there huge expensive die chips as well.
Maybe? Maybe they have got the hump with all the places Radion graphics are now to be found which soon maybe everywhere.

You're sounding an awful lot like a fanboy now.

I think the real question is, how does this affect your purchasing decision if you're already so against any of this? The reality is it doesn't.

My god, if even gregster is not going to defend Nvidia, we really must be in a new level dark times here.
I don't really care in truth. AMD are not even competing, which is a shame and I preferred the old days of arguing over a couple of fps one way or the other.

How? You're focusing on the source of the leak while ignoring the content and the claim that it's been corroborated by other companies.

Yet you keep going on about how AMD leaked it. How exactly am I the fanboy in this situation? I'd love to know. Also, a fanboy of what or who exactly?

It doesn't change my purchasing decision because nVidia have already done enough prior to this news that I dislike giving them my custom.
