[H]ardOCP: GeForce Partner Program Impacts Consumer Choice

Mud does indeed stick but for some reason not to nvidia who have done equally as bad, if not worse things and got off scott free.

i dunno...... i would have to google to be sure but didnt NV take a LOT of heat when the geforce FX 5000 series cards launched for being a bit rubbish? i remember pretty much all my mates refused to buy one.... and they also got a lot of complaints for their fermi cards when they 1st came out - about 6months late (though again iirc in time they did turn out to be ok, but it wasnt really until their refresh - which i think started with the GTX460 where it actually became worth owning.

this is from memory however but i think both those timepoints above, AMD offered better cards and didnt sales reflect that?

They still sold more than the much better Ati 9800 pro. I think the chart shows this on the last page.

The thing I find most depressing about that chart is that it shows Nvidia increasing market share after the launch of the 600 series, when they were literally offering Radeon levels of performance for noticeably more money :(

Yeah thats the thing, nvidia drop a bummer and there is a bit of moaning for a while then its forgotten..
Amd do something bad and OMFG its the end of the world forever.

The majority of sales, perhaps 95% of the total, fall under the RX 580 market segment and lower.
Why does AMD need to have the performance crown in order to sell the lower tier graphics?
They shouldn't, who said they should?

My point was that Nvidia producing the top cards probably influenced people buying lower tier cards. Because Nvidia make the "best" cards or Nvidia make the fastest cards, so why wouldn't you buy Nvidia?
It's the top tier stuff that grabs the headlines. I've not looked but I'd guess the Titan V made more headlines than the 1050.
In fairness the Vega cards did make headlines, but mostly because of how well the did mining, how little stock there was and how hard they were to get hold of and how those two things had increased the prices.

Yeah, nobody keeps bringing up the Nvidia cards catching fire or the 970 memory debacle. Completely forgotten.

And remember how when it was discovered about the 970 memory issue how everyone's cards start instantly performing worse than when people didn't know!

i had one of those...... great gpu and came with a free HL2 code (which didnt launch till after i had gotten rid of it).

the GTX 970 memory thing was a clustermess... but i guess the problem is even despite this it was still a fantastic card (tho i splurged the extra and got the 980 in an overclockers black friday deal)

I gotta admit that in principle i will go for who ever makes the fastest card that i can afford... but there is a bit of a fly in the ointment. hardware physx. when supported that is a massive gamechanger and makes a far bigger difference than a few extra fps or details.

its a shame it is locked to nvidia. if AMD licensed it on their cards as well it would be supported a lot more in most games. but that is a segue for another chat.

So, support one incompetent company for another incompetent company.

As i said previously, boycotting is just silly as it limits your choice.

This is AMD's problem and it's their responsibility to do better.

Nvidia and AMD are "incompetent" are they? Do you make better gpus? Does anyone?

Now that we're not living in caves anymore, some of us have developed advanced features such as morals, ethics and principles. Not all of us, evidently, however, while they do require some planning and foresight the payoff is well worthwhile in the long run.

Perhaps you should google the word 'boycott' to see how it was coined and learn what happened to Mr Boycott, as you believe that it does not work. For a word to make it into the Dictionary it must work rather well. We could even invent a new word or phrase for excusing someone’s malicious behaviour due to personal bias: we could call it ‘Rock_n_Roll PR’.

You know what else limits choice? Monopolies and anti competitive behaviour...

You both sound like a couple of old pensioners wearing pish stained trousers.

Enjoy playing the moral high ground nonsense. For the rest of us, we'll continue to enjoy and buy any tech as we see fit. Regardless of who makes it.

Also, welcome to my block list...

Those words you've used, I don't think you have a clue what they mean.

I also don't think you understand what truth and reality is.

What a fragile individual.

I've always wondered, what do you call people who are drawn to lost causes? ;) :p
lol yeah there's nothing we can do really, nVidia will get boned in the courts with big fines, hopefully in a few years time AMD are competing on a level and have convinced Asus not to name the cards arse :P
