H2OC Trident - 60'c+ Playing games - Can I Improve the W/C?

I got the rear fan at H now (got my old PC in the same case with all the fans at H - Oh GOD the noise!) although is was set to M originally.

I did notice that there's air in the system though, lots of tiny bubbles in the pipes, and when I squeeze the return pipe from the rad to the res there was a few bigger bubbles.

The coolant level in the res looks full from the front but looking at the back with a torch showsthe level about 3mm lower than the top of the res.

Is bleeding the system a "Warrenty Voidable" offense?

I took some pictures (click them for big versions) - you can see the small bubbles and the back of the res in them.

You may be injecting air at the pump as the reservoir only looks half-full (although that could be the picture) but if the sytem has been up and running for over 24 hours I would have expected those bubbles to have cleared by now.

with a half empty res its entirely possible that rad is half empty too, especially given the fact the barbs are at the bottom..

Fill the res up and then tilt the case when its running so the rad barbs are at the top (will be tricky) that will get all the air out of the rad and might improve things.

I have to ask though, with ocuk selling a watercooled system that is neither cool nor quiet, what precisely have you paid extra for?

Yep. It's quite possible. It might be easier to just unscrew the radiator from the fan and twist it rather than turn the whole case upside down.

Case badge?

I don't even get a case badge either! :D

I'm guessing then that the barbs are supposed to be at the top (OPTION A)? Or is more like a car radiator with the rad on its side with the cpu pipe at the top and return at the bottom (OPTION B)? If so I'll phone OC tomorrow and see if they'll sort it out (don't want to void the "warranty" do I!).

Theres plenty of space to turn it upside down, just needs a pipe rerouting and the res topping up.

Great!

Hmm my res is only just over 2/3 full, should they be full to the brim, it is a dual bay rez and I dont really have temp issues.
If it does still have some distilled in the bottle I can top it up with.
Sorry to hijack thread but seeing as we where on the subject thought I would post.

no the barbs are fine where they are, point is air in liquid rises so if you have air trapped in the loop it may well have settled at the top of the rad and how it is now it'll never leave so twisting the rad (rather than the whole pc, great idea ;)) might allow it to get out of the barbs and to the res.

The whole point of a res is a) to make it easier to fill the loop and b) to collect air "bleeding" as its called.

no, the res amount makes no difference to the cooling, as long as there is sufficient liquid to stop any air being pulled into the loop thats fine.

Ah HA! Got it - Rad tipped upside down - Shed loads of air and it was red hot! It emptied about 1/2 my Rad too until it got so low the pump just started pumping air. I'll get some more fluid (de-ionised water from halfords should be OK?) and top it up later.

Cheers Folks....................................................IAnH

PS Temp now sat at 36'c :D

PPS Midnight edit 29'c at idle!

If it's FESER 1 in the system it really wants more FESER 1 I'm afraid. Send the shop a webnote asking for a top-up and I'm sure they'll send you some. If they don't then ask for them to collect the system and top it up. ;)

we're bloody good aren't we ;)

Send me your order number and I'll get some sent out to you FOC. :)

There's no PM'ing on this board, have you got an e-mail at the shop?

PS 25'c at Idle! and 38'c Gaming - roughtly 1/2 of the previous temps, thats more like it!

Don't these get burned in at the store?

Thats the thing that annoyed me the most as I Knew something wasn't right (thats why I came here) but if enough people tell you it's OK then you start accepting it. Anyway, it's my guess the rad was never bled before it left the store (which only took me 30secs and 4 screws) and as much as it's good customer relations to get the top-up fluid FOC it should never have been necessary, even the blurb on the website calls it a "maintanence free" system LOL :D

Anyway, problem solved!

PS - Cold night tonight, idling at 21'c - it keeps getting better all the time.
