I prefer Gnome to KDE. I wish KDE was better, because it looks lovely, but when it comes to using it - especially when it comes to dual screens - things got very difficult for me. So I tried Ubuntu and all it good.

Why would Gnome be better at dual screen? It's your X server that looks after that, not your desktop environment.

+1 for Ubuntu and Gnome. Tried KDE 4 and it has a horrible GUI - kinda like Vista.

Currently I am trying Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 beta (AMD64) and very impressed. Damn fine distro for a Desktop PC/multimedia use. Things just work. Install the Nvidia driver with Envy - it's sorted very quickly. I have it setup Ubuntu as a triple boot with Windows XP and Vista Ultimate (both 64-bit). The Gparted version on the Jaunty live boot CD works much better now... With an Nvidia 9500M graphics card on the laptop I was using I installed Wine and managed to get Half-Life 2 working straight away with DX9.0c/HDR lighting (@ native resolution 1920x1080 with decent frame rates)). Watch out Mr Gates/Steve - we are after U!!
