Had a house fire - dealing with the aftermath?

Theres no electrics atm and different electrictions say different things. The first was OUR guy saying its all old cabling and the electric in the loft shouldn't be replaced, the whole house should as old cabling on new cabling is dodgy. Old cabling being keeping the electrics in the house bar the lofts he can produce a certificate replacing all. The cabling is 25yr old. The second guy said there wasn't much problem finding the lofts and just replacing it and keeping the house..... but the second guy is FROM the insurance company.

Aye yeah our problems.

Smell. The house obviously smells still of smoke when there we open windows doors. I was thinking of getting 5kg of bicarb off the bay and dump that everywhere.

Damp. Got 10x £1 cheap Asda dehumidifiers and dumped about.

We wait on what the builder later says. Weve taken up and cleared the room and one under was damaged alittle with damp and the celing started to fall in and did, so celing repair new bed and carpet. (carpet was very wet)

Then most would just need plastering, painting.

In all seriousness, my personal first port of call after the insurance pay out (if any) would be a full structural survey. After a fire of this mangnitude I would no longer trust the integrity of the joists in the house.

Thats a devastating amount of damage Tony. You were very lucky to be unharmed, even given the stupidity demonstrated by you on many occasions on these forums and in life, I am sure no one actually wishes you ill intent.

Shame about the loss of holiday cash, post a picture of the notes, lets see how badly damaged they actually are?

I can't speak for Britain in 2013 but I was in France in 1979 when all our campsite went up in flames and every bodies money was burnt.
The French banks exchanged every damaged note for new ones and there was one note that was basically just a corner.

I wont go into more detail but the bed caught and its lether and I was at a point of purely risking my life moleather bed was black in smoke, I opened a window to let out smoke and got out I managed to get down and 999, Once
butane gas was mentioned I was told to get out.....

I was lucky they came in 5 minutes. The whole loft is gone the midflooor is midway but had they of taken 15 minutes the damage would be neighbours lofts and our midfloor gone.and

2 days before a holiday too!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were advised to get it boarded and enjoy. Right so lets fast forward 2 weeks later we get back into the uk.

Its been about 3-5 days now insurance came out and electrictions.

Right the problem is we've no internet (oh no) and I require it for working, banking and sorting out this fire. I bought a laptop on holiday while using their net (UK SITE I bought it from). I am on it now. We are living at my grandads now and I wified BT WIFI FOM but poor signal and HIT AND MISS if it worked but I paid a fiver. I was thinking of cancelling my adsl and going for VIRGIN MEDIA as we can now get 100mb upto FIBRE!! I can use their 3g dongle??? while I wait or here at grandads. I have lost my HTC DESIRE HD IN THE FIRE I am going for a SIII contract .

Ok. We have bigger problems than no net just that its sweet for help, etc. The past 3 days weve been cleaning the room up

Gas heater in bedroom.
Trying to extinguish fire with flamable objects.


Who knows, the CO might kill you next time.
