Had an Xbone, then a PS4, keeping the Xbone

Firstly - PLEASE don't let this turn into a fanboy thread about what is better than the other! This is a genuine thread with valid points!

Anyway I bought an Xbox One around Christmas time, now generally this was based solely on the fact I had a 360 and so did the friends I played the occasional only game with, I also loved the 360 controller vs the PS3's controller.

I must admit to finding it bulky, in particular the Kinect sensor is huge along with the gigantic power brick! Anyway, played it, not a fan of the interface at all, it's sluggish and hard to find things.

A friend then bought a PS4, singing it's praises, I decided to buy one and sell the Xbox One, having unboxed the PS4, the console itself and general appearance/size is far better than the Xbox.

Then comes the controller, I was initially impressed with the DS4...
Anyhow, played a few games of FIFA online, started to notice that my thumb was aching after a few minutes of game-play because of the left analogue stick - not to mention it seems the online experience is not quite up with the XBox, I might be wrong, but it certainly seemed that way, in terms of joining games seemed buggy (plenty of 'connection lost' errors even though my connection was rock solid).

Thanks to a well known site my Xbox One sold but the buyer decided not to pay and just vanish from existence, so I have unboxed the Xbox now, and look likely to return the PS4 (cannot afford nor justify keeping both!)

So in summary my view of this whole console battle is;

1) The Xbox one controller is better than the DS4 if you have larger hands
2) The PS4 is far nicer to look at, and the speed/interface is far nicer and less clunky than the Xbox.
3) Online gaming community the Xbox seems better.

Has anyone else done similar (switch from one to the other without keeping both) would be interesting to hear views (non-biased please!)

Asks to not turn into a Fanboi war....

Makes clear points Fanbois will argue against.

As a human trafficker once told Liam Neason......"Good luck"

:D Well I suppose without it turning into a fan war it's always good to hear points for and against - some people will take it too far I guess!

I found this while playing at friends  which sucks as I will be buying PS4 soon, it felt like i was constantly reaching and battling with left thumb stick.

Yeah your thumb issue could likely be the change in the left analogue stick going from the MS style to Sony style controller, I found this last generation when I bought a 360 but after a week or two it was no longer an issue. Like last gen, this gen I made sure to buy both consoles as they both have their benefits. I can't say I have noticed any connectivity issues with either console, PSN and XBL have been performing fine for me.

I don't regret buying both, I have the PS4 for it's exclusives and most multi-platform titles as it's more powerful and tends to handle games a little better. Then I have the XB1 as MS will always have it's share of exclusive titles and DLC, I just couldn't pass on Killer Instinct at launch and Titanfall right around the corner and I'm sure there will be more.

i bought a xbox one on launch then got a ps4 for xmas I'm keeping both (for now) if i had to choose just one it would be ps4 its more powerful, better first party games ,better multi plats, better looking, indies, more of my friends have ps4 all my own opinion of course the xbox has better UI better controller but will be getting little use till halo comes along and the next forza which is why i thought about selling now for a good price and rebuying a halo bundle or something i just don't know :D on a plus note i do love peggle 2 its one game me and my 2 girls like to play together and its the only game my mrs would play :)

It's a tough one, in fairness the only games i'll play are FIFA and Need For Speed most of the time, not a massive gamer but do enjoy playing those games against friends and online to chill out after a day at work or something.

Not sure if it's small thumbs or large hands that causes the issue, but I think Dunzer is probably right in terms of being used to one controller - although the 360 had light use really, again it was for the usual sports/racing games.
It seems to be that i'll keep the Xbox One, yet prefer so many elements of the PS4 (Interface/Speed/Less Clunk!) Typical, can they make a PSBox? :D

When will people learn that you're always going to have a personal preference irrelevant of owning both.

If i had more money than sense and bought both systems and say preferred ps4 it doesn't mean I'm "unbiased" lol!

You must have small hands/thumbs if it feels like you need to reach for the left thumb stick on the DS4.

You could try the Orb thumb grips (£3) on the DS4 and see if that makes it more comfortable for you.

I think its the way they stick in now indented, I never liked that on the xbox controller either. I prefer the round mushroom type sticks like on the DS3 good shout about the orb thumb grips might buy them once I get my PS4.

the same time ppl realise you need to own both to be able to comment on both consoles good points and bad points, its got nothing to do with more money than sense its about choice,i have a favourite jumper does not mean the rest of them are rubbish,i like both consoles but does not mean I'm bias towards one or the other you have to a idiot or a fanboi to disagree that the ps4 is the bestir games machine, its more powerful and cheaper you can't argue with facts

My PS4 and XBone are collecting dust in my AV cabinet. I haven't touched either since before Christmas... This will likely change once Titanfall and other titles arrive but until then my 360 gets the most use for games and ps3 for 3D blurays.

You can't argue with that.. But does power make it a better games console?

Good to hear lots of comparisons about the controllers tho :)

I don't know who this is aimed at but I bought both because I could afford to and because I wanted to, sense doesn't really enter into the equation. What you may deem as illogical is not necessarily the same as someone else.

I would consider myself unbiased as well, I have no loyalty to MS or Sony. Both systems have different qualities and charm about them and I have said that from day 1, I play my PS4 slightly more at the moment but last week I didn't touch it at all it was only XB1. If I decide after a few months that I prefer the XB1 for example, I don't think that makes me biased it's simply a preference.

That's come up a few times. It might do, or it might make no discernable difference whatsoever.

What is likely to happen is that PS4 exclusive titles will get best use out of increased power, but you'll have nothing to compare them with. Dual platform titles will likely look mostly the same because it's certainly not in a developer/publishers interests to do otherwise.

In reality people will continue to buy games based on trailers and promotional material taken from the games running on a PC ;)

FWIW, and I've mentioned it before I think, I'm looking at getting an XB1 when I see a decent bundle. I wouldn't be distraught if I had to get a PS4 instead.

Your right with the visuals,PS4 first party games will far exceed those on the X1. I would suggest that you will also see better performance on multi platform titles as well though, already you are seeing higher resolutions and higher frame rates and this will likely increase over time and the gap will widen unless the dev deliberetly holds back to accommodate the poor little (freaking huge) X1. You will find a lot of X1 owners will state they don't care about this etc etc but I would be miffed at spending far more on less powerful tech.

why will the gap widen?

Killzone is a showcase for great graphics do not make a great game :) I doubt anyone will be miffed that the XB one is not as powerful as it was hardly kept secret from anyone buying it.

I would say the Kinect in terms of "tech" you get in the console is leaps ahead of just a slightly better graphics card.
If you want to talk about technical ability, the Kinect is one of the most advanced things.
