Had my glasses a day and one of the lense is already scratched.

Is it the anti-glare coating that gives them the green tint?

Do you have any coatings? Is it glass or plastic? How about you take a picture of it?

It's not so much the anti glare gives the lens a green tint but rather reflections appear green and not a harsh bright reflection.

edit: Really surprised they got scratched if you have a protective coating. Mine have a scratch and a few chips but they get subject to all sorts of abuse in work.

I was under the impression that all lenses came with the anti-scratch coating by default from specsavers?

OP must have done something pretty major to get such a noticeable scratch and chip, as I'm certainly not the most careful with mine and have barely any hairline scratches at all and these are going on 2 years old.

I called Specsavers again and my lenses come with anti-scratch coating as standard. Just must be something I've done to them...

Oh well time to fork out another £20 to get a new one. -_-

I wasn't impressed with specsavers lenses with the anti scratch coating, they had to replace my lenses as the coating just flaked off. Replacements only lasted a few weeks till the same started happening. Went elsewhere and bought replacement glasses and havent had the same issue since.

Cheers for the replys/info so far guys.

When I called them up the woman I spoke to said all the glasses were checked under a UV light and then signed off by the manager to assure that they were in perfect condition.

Here's a pic of the scratches, it looks like they've been scraped because as said before their is a little tiny nick on the bottom of the actual frame to.

Have you tried giving them a good clean. As I had a mark on one of my lenses that looked like a scratch and it came off when I used some lens cleaning stuff.

I didn't use any lens cleaner but I did try and give them a good clean. Pretty damn certain it's a scratch.

I'm not sure if I got the anti scratch coating, I called specsavers and they said it'll cost £19 for a new lense. Not to bad. I'm sure it is something I've done because the scratch extends to the rim of the glasses at the bottom, their is a tiny nick.

Cheers

If you've only had them one day don't pay for the lens to be replaced.

I work for Specsavers as a glazing technician (I make the glasses) and every lens comes with a scratch resistant treatment on them regardless of them being the cheap lenses or the most expensive ones. (More expensive ones do have a better coating however).

If they have been treated correctly then they shouldn't be scratched.

Specsavers also have a 3 months no quibble no fuss guarantee as well so if they don't play ball when you ask for a replacement lens then tell them you'd like a refund under your no quibble no fuss guarantee. If they still try and play you off then write to head office and you'll definately get it sorted.

Definately a scratch there.

In terms of my above post, I'd ask for a new frame as well if this one is already damaged. Covered under the no quibble no fuss as well. :D

Cheers for the reply - In all honestly I wouldn't really kick up a fuss about the frame because it is barely noitceable unless you're super observant and who knows I could have done it myself.

How likely is it something like this can happen in the lab though? I'm thinking they wouldn't sign the glasses off to me if their is a huge scratch across them.

Cheers

this exact same thing happened to me, i've been wearing glasses for 3 months now and there scratched to buggery, i am extra careful but after 4 days a scratch appeared from nowhere i had only worn them twice and kept them in the glasses case when not using them, i'm presuming the scratches are from when i've wiped them with the glasses cloth that came with them or the optical wipes, there now covered with scratches and this was with scratch resistant coating aswell, i know someones going to say i dragged them on the floor but i promise i didnt, apart from the one drop which has indeed caused another scratch i have been extra protective of them :(

Scratch-proof coatings for the win.

I'd expect to have glasses 3-4 years before they pick up even minor scratches.

I've had mine 4 years now and they're covered in scratches.. When it starts to annoy me more I think I'll go get my eyes lasered and bin the glasses! :)

To be honest I'd hope to god that a scratch that big would occur in a lab and then be sent down for a customer. It wouldn't in my lab anyday of the week. The cost of most lenses is so small that it wouldn't even be a cost issue to just replace the lens if it has been damaged in anyway.

I've scratched lenses before when tightening up screws and slipping. I just get another one out the draw and start again. Before the glasses leave the lab they are double checked for the prescription and frame / lens quality and then stamped to say they have been checked. Ideally as well they should be inspected by the member of staff who fits them for you.

Obviously a tiny scratch may be missed by someone on occasion due to human error, tiredness or other factors but as a company I'd say Specsavers as a company are more than happy to put any issues right for it's customers. It's why we offer our no quibble no fuss guarantee.

Oh and the glasses would never leave my lab with a scratch like that. Far to obvious and if it was there from collection I can't beleive the fitter didn't notice either.

Do you actually believe this can happen?

A scratch on a material like plastic would have to come from some sort of abbrasion.

Really no point me trying to put up a fight with the staff then it seems, might aswell just pay to get the lense replaced.

So is plastic harder to scratch then glass? I can understand what the other poster is saying though, I know I have been very careful as not to scratch them.

Is it likely the cloths can scratch the lenses on occasion?

EDIT - Also one of the arms on the hinges are still and dont move at all however the other arm is a little bit lose and you can rock it from side to side. Don't seem that well put together
