Hadrian's wall not about the Romans

Is Mohammed going to China to give them some earache over a Great wall they built? No, thought not, he's just stirring the **** here 'cause people are mug enough to platform him and his pretend affection for his ethnicity, that at some recent time he or his family chose to leave behind and come to the British Isles.

The article isn't controversial and there's no rewriting of history here. The frontier was garrisoned by an eclectic mix of personnel of cultures drawn from across the Empire; that's well-known to anyone with even a moderate interest in the history of Hadrian's Wall and Roman archaeology. It's a simple request to put some emphasis on that fact. As a point of learning and to add colour (no pun intended) for the multitude of visitors to the region, it's a valid point.

Non issue.

Yes I read it, and I see no reason for it

You don't? It's an inflammatory article on the BBC and you don't see it a reason for it? Here's the reason - clicks and shares. And it worked.

It's just how they've worded it. It looks harmelss but the words they choose and placement thereof [e.g. including "not about romans" as a subheading] get people all worked up. They are a low-key Daily Mail these days.

I personally didn't know there was an ethnic history to the area, so I find it quite interesting. I don't think history is about to be rewritten or anything though.

An interesting tidbit that I never knew about, though that is more a reflection on myself and my lack of knowledge about the Roman Empire.

They're just asking for a bit more information to be put up. Don't think that harms anyone and it gives those who are likely to read the signage more information which is hardly ever a bad thing.

The Romans took auxiliary legions from every region that they colonised. From Africa Europe and Asia. They were equal opportunity invaders.

This is what I was thinking. It's not like these people travelled here themselves. They were shipped here and stuffed on a guardswatch.
