Haggling DFS?

I think greebo works for a competitor or was touched inappropriately by a dfs sales person as he's hating on them so much!:D

LMAO. nah, just annoys me that i have never got anything expect extra thrown in for free off the price at DFS when every else I normally manage a discount. Hell I even got ocuk to knock £200 off a monitor once just be putting my case across and asking nicely :)

I got the below for about corner sofa + leg rest for about 1.2k rather than the circa 2k list price on sofology.
(this was as it was b grade/reconditioned! They didn't seem to want to budge much on normal price)

It's quite comfortable foam, although between the seats it's not as firm as I'd like and sinks a fair bit (I went for the foam upgrade rather than standard fibre filled). Overall I'm pretty pleased! It's definetly worth looking in a showroom rather just online, it changed my mind on what I was after.

Sweet Living room mate!

I have successfully haggled in DFS and got nearly £400 and free delivery by paying in cash some year ago. In fact i try and haggle everything ,you dont ask you dont get .

Congrats. I consider myself a strong haggler, much to my other halfs annoyance when I am still haggling 2 hours later in the shop to get £10 off a £100 tumble dryer but I have never ever managed to get money off in DFS. Extras thrown in for free but never money off.

Having worked in my parents furniture shop for years and knowing what it costs to make furniture i would have not bought anything without getting a discount of some sort . And a big wad of 50 pound notes works wonders when you wave it in someone face . I buy everything in cash when i can it helps to haggle

If somewhere doesn't haggle then I go elsewhere to a competitor who will.

why? legitimate places will never let anyone haggle.

for instance i bought all my sofas from M & S. I imagine if anyone tried to haggle in there they would be a laughing stock and told to leave.

if you go somewhere that allows haggling then no doubt it's ripping people off so i wouldn't want to give them any money in the first place.

haggling has it's place but there is a time and a place for it.

M&S and JL are worth asking for price match at least. I've never been told to leave. ;)

Bye a La-Z-Boy! Seriously you can get them as non recliners too and for the same price as DFS inflated ching you get a reasonable quality item.

Our last sofa before the LZB was from DFS and it was utter carp. Admittedly it was a fabric sofa from the lower end of the range, but it didn't wear well even under average use. Plumping up the seat cushions is part of the sales pitch they use but when they are filled with material that can't even support the weight of a 12 stone adult no amount of pummelling can resurrect them. Couldn't even bring ourselves to sell on secondhand and donated to one of the housing charities - and even they were a bit sceptical about it.

tl:dr just do yourself a favour and take DFS out of the picture altogether.

price match is completely different to haggling though.

walk into M & S and ask how much for this Sofa, they then spec it up to for you (colour, fabric, size, etc) and say £2K and then you go how about we call it £1200 cash? and see what happens

Ive haggled in M&S before and succeeded. Ive even haggled in Tescos.
