Eracer, you seem to be one of those snipers who actually camps out and snipes from long distances (like with real life sniping). Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not calling you a noob or anything but I personally find that being more dynamic and moving from place to place more often results in far better scores.
Back in the early days I used to camp out whilst sniping but I quickly discovered it's not the best strategy, mainly because of the graphics scaling system employed by BF2, i.e. the way BF2 scales down graphics at a distance to you. I find that it is actually easier to spot enemies at a distance because they seem to show up as small blobs against blurry textures.
This effect is so bad, virtually every game I kill at least 5 snipers trying to do this; they think they are well camoflaged, when in fact they are not. So Unless the sniper is incredibly good at getting head shots on moving tragets from long range, they're usually deadmeat (I just keep running and time my shots just after theirs).
It's probably not realistic, but "run and gun sniping" is way more effective imho. Obviously it's a lot more risky but the reward is much greater (especially if the server is filled with noobs who like to shoot in stationary positions
). I'm talking at least 2:1 kill ratios and often the top combat score on any map, regardless of it being IO only or not.

Not sure about 2142 but in BF2, sniping is way more fun than other classes imho. Yeah sure, camping in one position and picking off random people sucks, but if you play as a team, constantly moving from place to place it can be a huge rush. It's the risky nature of a sniper that makes it fun, you really have to rely on lighting fast reactions and sharp aiming to survive; miss a forehead by a milimetre and your're pretty much screwed. Being able to take out medic/support whores from just yards away, head on, is priceless.
