Half Life 2 - Which version?

Well 10 days later i bit the bullet and ordered it.

£40, but you getting a lot for the money.

Its downloading now, it said about 4.5hours (for 9GB that's not bad) however, each game is downloading at about 22kb/s.

???

Pause all the games except for say Half-Life 2. Then once Half-Life 2 is downloaded, go for something else.

Its spreads the bandwidth across the games. If you want one specific game quickly, pause all the others until its downloaded.

If that's not done everything, restart Steam. If that doesn't help, right click on each game and go to properties. On the updates tab, set it not to keep automatically up to date or something along those lines.

I've tried to upt them all back, on, and now nothing is downloading.

So its ok to close steam and start again?

A reset has done wonders cheers.

up to 100kb/s (well between that and as low as 40kb/s)

You wont lose anything downloaded when you close Steam, it keeps it all there for later.

Once you have the source engine downloaded (which is the most part of Half-Life 2), you'll be reasonably quick in downloading the other Source games. Good old shared content :)

CS:S is the biggest, being 1.6GB, Half-Life 2 specific content is 840MB after the engine and sounds. Half-Life: Source is 780MB, and Day of Defeat: Source comes in at a mere 610MB, and Lost Coast only 300MB, though that's only 1 level.

I was wondering like because all this D'lding stuff (when i put them back up) jumped from 8% to a 68% average, i thought it was a fault.

Sweet, good idea.

But am too knackered now to play, plus i need to tweak the GFX, everythings perfect but when i move up and down its ripples and splits (if you know what i mean)

Sounds like you've not got VSYNC turned on, if it's tearing.

I think so, i turned it on, and its better.

What's up with triple bufferng?

I here it does the same job but doesn't effect frame-rate

Am a total noob so... :D

I need some help, re HL2 and CS:S

I have on my PC HL2 and CS:S installed and fully updated,

just looked in the Valve folder and it is 6.18 GB in size....

If i reformat my PC it would take ages to update HL2 but even more for CS:S is there a way to download some patch update etc from valve/steam for CS:S

or do I have to just download through steam etc ?

Such a huge size for a game

Back the files up on DVD or somewhere else, and just stick them in the SteamApps folder when you re-install.

Got meself a gun, hehe.

Love it so far, got the same feel as the 1st, nicely taking me for a ride.

@ Davey.

I've noticed something really weird.

My sound is the wrong way round, sounds to my left are coming out of the right etc...It only happens in this game though, i've had a play about with settings with my computer just in case.
