Half Life appreciation thread.

I didn't think anything could replace Quake as my favourite game until I played Half Life. A great FPS with a coherent story to match rather than just trying to get to the end of the level in Quake. It was a "wow" moment for me.

Tremendous game, still has a place in my nostalgic mind!

Opposing Force was good as well, shame Blue Shift didn't expand it any more other than slightly better graphics.

Did someone say - Snark!? :D (My uni project from afew years back)

I remember the multiplayer like it was yesterday! Loved the Undertow map...might have to see if any servers are still up...

I remember getting a PC Gamer demo disc, and playing the Half Life demo with my older step brother, and being like 'Woah '... But when I played, I was still in Wolfenstein 3D mode, i.e. directional keys to move, and ctrl to shoot and I spent ages trying to work out how to aim at enemies that were above you. :p

I didn't get around to playing the game properly until a few years later when I got given an old Pentium III machine with 64MB of memory and IGP graphics of some kind. Half Life ran like a dream and I used to rush home from school everyday to get a bit further through the campaign. The day it was completed was a great day, but also a sad one as I had come to the end of an epic adventure. :p :D

Half-Life : Uplink is where itz at y0. I love the fact that the demo wasnt even part of the full game just a random level that Valve had made to show you the gameplay!

Perfect!

I cannot believe that no one else has picked up on this yet?!!?
While I'm not going to be holding my breath this has got to be good news as I think it will demand at least some response. I mean, getting Valve to even mention anything to do with HL is like getting blood from a thingy.
And after that HL3 tshirt pic a few weeks back there has been more HL chatter than for years before.

I'll never forget the assassin room with all the crates in it. Little people darting all over the place. It took me weeks.

For me that was so tense/scary/frustrating memory. Loved the game, remember buying the big box pack for like£60 in the high street music and game shop. Now rebought all the half life's of steam last year to play through again. So much fun.

I still replay HL1 from time to time. It's one of those games, that when you play for the first time, you never forget it, and you want to go back re-live those memories each time you play it. Same for me with Deus Ex. They each have that 'wow' factor that really just sticks with you. Seeing the Black Mesa complex with all the scientists running around was really amazing at the time when it came out. I had seen screenshots, but when I played it for the first time, it was really indescribable - that good.

My mum forced me to take HL1 back to the shop, in the days you could take them back.

I cut her then disowned her that day.
