Half Life appreciation thread.

Anyone know if there are remakes done/being done of opposing forces and blue shift? Truly loved the Half Life series.

I finished Half Life 2 yesterday, Episode 1 today and am going to do Episode 2 now and thought that since its so amazing I need to do Half Life 1, any good graphics mods that make it look a bit better?

Black mesa has been in the works since about the beginning of time.

Valve updated half life 1 with the source engine but besides slightly fancier water surfaces the game looks the same.

By the time Black Mesa is released there'll probably be a new source engine and they'll have to start over :P

I still remember to this day the rail ride into Black Mesa, and Barnie greeting me. All while the gaming credits over layed the screen in the corner like a Movie.

No game has had that impact since.

The clanging noise where the giant creature was crashing around..
Marines on Radios, Headcrabs and the Mysterious G-Man. All of them completely memorable to me :)

Nothing comes close to the Half Life series in my opinion.

Show it some love :D

Same as, not only is half-life the best game I've played, it's the reason I started gaming. I wonder how many hours I've spent gaming since then because of that game *shudder* more than 10,000 I'd say...

Well, similarly if it wasn't for HL1 I would not have found Counter-Strike or Team Fortress - or the multiplayer world for that matter. I did play Quake but I never got into it the same way I did with Half-Life. So yes I blame you Half-Life for all those sleepless nights in my teens playing Team Fortress and Counter-Strike on a 56k modem.:p

I think I played half life one on Xbox or ps2 years ago. Won all the steam games at christmas, am I best playing half life 1 then 2 and then the eps or hl1 then the add on things then 2 and so on?

Stand out moments for me were...

When you see the military for the first time, yay, a rescue! :)

Climbing through a pipe onto a cliff face with a jet flying past. Half-Lifes music was used so effectively.

The giant plant / claw thing. That area was simply amazing, I can still hear the clanging of the silo walls :D.

Just completed HalfLife 2, Episode 1 and 2, Truly awesome games and what an ending at Episode 2.

I think however that they are planning to release Episode 3 bundled with Half Life 3 so you get to finish off Half Life 2 then straight into Half Life 3.

Just a hunch..

I think HL was a great game and still do, but I don't understand how people pretty much foam at the mouth for it. I mean the story wasn't anything amazingly special given that we don't actually know anything regarding the G-Man - if you take that away it's just some dude fighting his way out of an alien/military infested base.

As controversial as this will sound, i'm anticipating Doom 4 more than HL3.

I think that's what made it so good though. We know nothing about him, but he is probably one of the best characters of any game, simply because of how mysterious he is.

Absolutely cannot wait for HL3 (or another episode).

I always wondered what your username was about until the other day :D

Well this is my point! Anyone can put a random person into a game and not explain who he/she is. Valve can't really be given credit for it until they deliver the truth behind him.

Haha yep! I wanted just 'G-Man' but another member has that, hence the capitals and my join date. :(

Ah I see what you mean. It'll be a good few years (and more) before we ever discover the truth though I imagine. :p
